I'm not sure a generic "Heavy Armor" upgrade is necessary with all the specialized upgrades. Perhaps we should do a classic level1/2/3 armor/weapons upgrades which effect all hordes, and then have the special upgrades only have 1 level. The per-horde upgrades would be limited to the specialization upgrade (light/heavy infantry I was talking about.)

Just an idea, of course.

As long as I get to texture that Linothorax armour, I'm cool with whatever you guys want to do upgrade-wise. :thumbsupsmiley: Seems like a challenge.

To make it look good would be a challenge, a lesser skinner might make it look quite awkward and terrible.

Can you give me an example of what you're meaning to do with upgrades? I'm confused...

Even if it's just a visual change, the Hoplites should advance to Linothorax armour... this is an interesting article that summarizes it up quite well.

Anyway - you guys should have a lot of fun with Greek arms and armour. Here's a great example of three sword, in order from top to bottom: a kopis, a non-Spartan xiphos, and a Spartan xiphos. The Spartans used a much smaller xiphos because it was easier maneuver in the crash of melee combat between two phalanxes, while the rest of Greece (notably Athens) used the longer variant. On that note, the Atheniens actually appeared to have preferred the kopis to the xiphos - most contemporary art shows their Hoplites as using far more prominently than the xiphos. Just an interesting aside :thumbsupsmiley:

I guess I couldn't tell you if you were.

What I mean is, you have your work cut out for you, I know I couldn't skin that.

So no matter what upgrades there are, I'm sure we'll have a Linothorax armor upgrade of some kind.

we still don't have a techtree as a foundation... yours was rather lacking Mike :thumbsupsmiley: I think..

And I can vouch for Matias being not a lesser skinner ;)

They look lovely :thumbsupsmiley:

Also, i thought Sparta mostly used the lambda on their shields, so a few of those too would look good. And this might give you a few ideas for Athenian shields.

A side question for mike/anyone else: did men typically have beards and long hair back then? I think i've read somewhere that it wasn't until Alexander the Great that men started shaving, and that before then, men usually grew their hair long as a sign of strength/vitality. Either way, some beards would probably be nice for some randomised skins and stuff.

It was discussed that the Spartans would have had long hair but not the Athenians at this time.

My first "attempt" at doing linothorax armor. I reckon I can do quite a few variations. Mapping et cetera isn't looked at, so don't comment on that. :thumbsupsmiley:

Looks amazing...

Guys, I'm having some real-life stuff going on right now, I'll be on the forums but I can't really do anything hardcore for this atm... Actually, I'm not sure all I can do anyway. If I could be the "Balance Designer" that would be good. But it's not quite necessary beyond the conceptual level at this time.

The spartan hoplites look amazing, I'd like to see the lambda letter (Λ) on those shields though.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.
