The book didn't lack anything. I knew it was a bad idea to spin it into 3 movies...

I also liked everything, except that this line about the battle of the 5 armies worries me a lil bit:

"You never know, it might be seven, eight or nine armies by the time we finish."

The book is pretty straight forward. There was no need to add to or enhance the experience with extra stuffing. I never minded the appendices being included. Its like the succes of lotr has encouraged pj and co to go further with changes for the hobbit all on the basis that the changes they made to the lotr were what made it successful. So with that thought more changes to the hobbit would equal more successful. Which is far from the truth.

In my opinion the hobbit should have fewer changes since the story is much easier to read and understand. More people will have read it and understood it. I am curious about the dwarves involvement in pissing smaug off, this could go either way for me. As long as smaug eventually goes off on a rage to torch lake-town and gets his by bard, I should be good.

In the end these films will probably just be peter jacksons the hobbit rather than a true to the book adaption. No wonder the tolkien estate is pissed.

And that's why I'm glad they're a trilogy, with separate names, rather than just "The Hobbit". I'm still glad that they're making them, though.

It's sad to see Boyens' 'feminine energy' invention (Tauriel) further reduced to a gender stereotype.

I bet her love interest is legolas. She dies and then it changes him leadimg him to be different from his father and eventually to go to the council of elrond and then a member of the fellowship.

You can give me the oscar now, id like to thank everyone who lost.

I already thought we knew who she was interested in?

I thought Aiden Turner confirmed that Kili "pursued" her, but that it was a one-way thing.

Im basing my opinion on what I saw in the trailer. Seemed like she and legolas go off on some journey together and she seems to be of the opinion that the elves should be involved in doing something against the evils in the world. I can very easily imagine a relationship springing from the 2 of them being alone and out in the wilds, and I can also see legolas taking on her stance on the elves involvment if she dies. She would be his love and a martyr. But it fits well and is sterotypical.

I could be way wrong though lol
