A weird thing is how "Eastern" Dale and Laketown look from the stuff I've seen.
The Laketown guards all have conical helmets, the structures have a very non Norse style to them which you'd expect.

The Norse style has already been used on Rohan, so a copy of that wouldn't be original. Besides, I think they still wanted to use some northern elements, the Slavic states had a lot of Norse influences, so PJ probably used those for the movie. Dale and Esgaroth use Norse stuff, but in a Slavic version ;). Oh well, we need to wait for the behind-the-scenes stuff to confirm this, it's all just theories, and very interesting indeed :D.

Rewatched it and indeed, it's just Esgaroth who uses the Slavic elements.

WETA is confusing the lot of you! ;p They seem to mix different elements from earth's cultures. The Haradrim, for example, had elements from the Aztecs and the Kiribati Islanders.

"Endearing and likable, Bofur has a disastrous tendency to state the obvious and blurt out things without thinking." Oh wait, that's the character bio. ;p

PJ is continuing to stray further and further from the source and at this point doesn't give a shit and even relishes it. :(

It would seem that this movie is going to be very Elven just like Two Towers was.

One of the last lines in that article made me actually face palm.

"Jackson has always felt that the book lacked a definitive confrontation between the Dwarves and their great nemesis, Smaug.

He's rectified that. There will be bombs, infernal artillery and one pissed off dragon".

All I see is green screen, green screen, and green screen. Whatever happened to shooting mostly on location as it was in Lord of the Rings?
