If I was you Apollo I'd go back to the drawing board and better narrow down your goals for the mod and cut back everything you don't think is needed.

The Dunedain faction idea as mentioned has been done before and so has the "through the ages" kind of idea (both by me).

If the Dunedain faction is the main focus then the name doesn't really fit.

Perhaps remove the "through the ages" part since it seems a bit random like having Arathorn and Aragorn together.

If I was you focus entirely on the Dunedain faction and make it cool and original give them a unique and interesting play style and after it's done then add Rohan.

If you still want to go through the ages do what I did with LWR and use the spell book since it ignores time and space already.

Thanks Rad for all of that :) Here is my thought process. Feel free to comment how ever you please.

Here is the problem with the whole spellbook. Just like you said. Its been used before. I was thinking of doing it kinda like the upgrade stonework ability for MOTW. Where its a global upgrade from the fortress. Deluxe Edition did this and i didn't want to copy that.

Rohan - In my opinion should of been a faction in BFMEII to start off with. Hence why i am bringing it back. Basically i took the long route doing this and completely recoded the entire faction. With its own specialized folder etc (Roh)

Dunedain - It was my original mod idea a while back but then joined FB2G which was probably the worst idea ever.  I stand by this and i do want a complete faction. I have a vision for it and it is slowly taking shape.

Global Changes - "through the Ages" represents the fact that there are units from all the different Era's of middle-earth. Heck if i can get what i want done you will have a vast amount of new units, abilities, upgrades, heroes, etc.. to choose from. Sure mods add new heroes, units, and textures and stuff. But many mods follow some sort of time period (big example is TPW, total conversion) I don't know the lore to anything in LOTR. I would be corrected half the time if i did try and follow the lore. Sure it would be a learning experience :p but in all honesty i have only ever liked LOTR and BFME because of the action, incredible story line, and all the old fashion weapons used (bows, swords, MAGIC, and the list goes on). So, basically i don't want to be "confined" if that makes any sense.

I also want to make this FUN for me as well. If i followed lore whilst creating it in all honesty i would get bored due to the confinement.

Well, to be fair: in TPW Sparta has Leonidas, and he died before even the First Peloponnesian War.

I have to agree with Rad on the name though. "Through the Ages" sounds like an Age of Empires mod, where you start in the First Age, then upgrade to the Seconds, and then the Third. One of your examples is Isildur being a Gondor hero. Why do you want Isildur to be mixed with Gondor of the Third Age? There are tons of heroes to choose from, I hope you aren't adding him just because you feel you need to. I personally would favour a Third Age mod, and simply name it "Rangers of the North" or something. "Dunedain of the North", "The Grey Company", "Shire Border-control", etc.. "Middle-Earth through the Ages" sounds like a massive mod with many factions, not like a mod that adds the Dunedain.

Oh, and don't be discouraged when people say that you aren't creative in your faction choosing. A Dunedain faction is fine. Make it stand out different from Rad's faction, and you'll be okay.

Agreed with Lauri on the ages thing, I'd prefer it to be just the 3rd age, "The Grey Company" would sound good. And if you're stuck with lore, ask us before you make something! :p

Grey Company would be a good name for a mod, quick use it before I do. :p

Lol. Interesting ideas!

I don't want to call it the grey company. Sounds a bit OLD to me plus I wasn't planning on adding those kinds of rangers.

The 3rd age mod would be interesting but wouldn't that get confusing with the forums and all!

Rangers of the north sounds cool. I might go with this. But seems a bit long to me.

So I think it's either t3a mod or the grey company. Maybe a poll is needed! See which one people agree with more? I do dislike lore but I can see where you guys are coming from and I will change it. But I will only change it once it has that "ring" to it. T3a obviously has a ring to it because everyone is used to the name.

Any other suggestions? Names wise.

Or simply "Rangers" or something... Time/Hour of the Dunedain?

1. Have you heard about the Grey Company? You know what is is? How does it sound "OLD"? What "kind of rangers"?

2. If you call it The 3rd Age mod you lose. It would be confusing as hell. And no more fitting than most mods either. Most of our mods are in the Third Age.

3. Let's see:

- Middle-earth through the Ages

- Rangers of the North

You really have a problem with the length? :p RotN sounds cooler than MettA too, but not by a big-ass margin..

Yea. See my problem. Haha all the short names are taken. I know what the grey company is. I just think the grey company rangers look strange because most of then have that band around there head or whatever. Grey sounds like they are an old company haha

MettA
RotN
tGC

Any other ideas name wise the shortest there is tGC.

Another idea is I could add all the standard factions like Rhun, Arnor, etc. and give it a successful already used build up system like in Deluxe edition. But the issue with that is it would kinda be the same thing most mods do.

Uhm... The Grey Company look the way you want them to look. They aren't in the movies, so you can choose whatever concept suits you. Are you sure you're not mixing them with something else? They are rangers. You already have their leader, Halbarad, and the Dunedain Elite Rangers and\or Dunedain Knights could represent the Grey Company in the mod.

At any rate, it's more about telling people that this is about rangers, with the faction being the Dunedain of the North. If you don't like the name, then there's not much to it. I like The Grey Company and Rangers\Dunedain of the North. I don't like Middle-earth through the Ages.

Nope i wasnt confused. I think it was because there were only 31 of them and i dont think a faction of 31 units could defeat anything. Unless they were all uber heroes. - I dont want to make this into an Arnor faction by the way.

Do you think it would be bad if i did call it that but didnt limit the amount of units? Everyone seems to like that name much better. It could grow on me i suppose.

Mordor has haradrims and easterlings. Rohan has elves. Gondor has Gandalf. Rohan has Gimli. See where I'm getting at? How you got the idea that the Dunedain should be limited to 31 damn units is beyond me.. And Arnor? The Dunedain are the remnants of Arnor. Nobody suggested that you should change the faction into Arnor?

"The Grey Company" would not be the name of the faction, it would be the name of the mod. Lone Wolf isn't actually about a lone wolf.. What is a cool name for a mod? "The Grey Company." What do people think of when they hear that? Rangers of the North. What do your mod do? It adds Rangers of the North. The only issue here is if you simply don't like the sound of it. As I already said, there's not much to do about that.

Lore wise it was a group of 31. Thats what i ment by that. Many people think The Dunedain shouldnt have a whole faction due to there limit in numbers, hence why i brought up Arnor.

I'll be changing the name to The Grey Company. Due to everyone liking it better and it making more sense.

There were only 31 Rangers in the grey company but there would have been more than 31 Rangers in total and that's how I'm doing my Arnor/Dunedain faction.

The 31 Rangers were probably just what was at hand for Halbarad but the Rangers were travellers like Aragorn they could be just about anywhere.

There was a topic somewhere in the lore section where we discussed the possible locations and number of Dunedain.

Radit:Found it
