Map theme ideas:
 
Prehistoric:
-Volcanoes. Volcanoes will occasionally spit out molten rock at its surroundings, which can do damage.
-Cavemen "civilians".
-Caves.
-Dinosaurs. T-Rexs, Raptors, Triceratops, Stegosauruses, pterodactyls, giant squid, and so on. Some are hostile.
-Pterodactyl nests.
-Giant flowers.
-Large trees.
-Broken / run-down time machine.
 
Underground:
(As seen in old C&C days, there has been underground / interior maps.)
-Lava. Lava will be like water, however no amphibious / naval unit or Naval Yard can go on it. A Lava tile will occasionally "bubble up".
-Dark abysses. Dark abysses will be like water, however no amphibious / naval unit or Naval Yard can go on it... Essentially it's a "bottomless" hole in the ground.
-Lavafall. A waterfall, except with lava. The flow is much slower.
-Glowing crystals.
-Mine cart tracks.
-Moles.
-Light posts & generators.
-Fossils.
-Ore boulder that leaves ore everywhere when destroyed.
 
Halloween:
-Invincible Ghosts that just float around going OOOoooOOOooooOoo
-Hostile Zombies w/ Zombie spawning cemeteries & Cobblestone walls.
-Hostile Hell-Hounds.
-Crows that just fly around & caw.
-Purple/grey grass.
-Jack-o-lanterns.
-Heavy fog. Like that cartoony fog in Legend of Zelda.
-Dead trees.
-Scare Crows w/ wheat field.
 
Christmas:
-Igloos.
-Christmas trees.
-Christmas present creates. 
-Snowmen.
-Santa.
-Santa's Headquarters.
-Reindeer.
-Giant candy canes.
 
Extras:
 
-Thunder. Occasionally strike an area, which can do damage.
-Meteorites. Occasionally strike an area on "moon" type maps, which can do damage.
-Icebergs.
-Destroyable large boulders that can be blocking paths.
-Cactus.
-Rain.
-More night-time maps.
-Shallow water. units and infantry may traverse Shallow Water, but at %25 lower speed. Naval units cannot traverse Shallow Water. Shallow water does 50% damage to all fire-type Pokemon.
-Sharks, Whales & fish that just swim around and look cool.
-Birds that just fly around, looking cool, and tweeting.
-Swampy water. It's just green water with lots of algae.
-Old run-down castle stuff w/ cannons & whatnot.
-A statue of Speeder.
-Neutral mines w/ Mine-field signs.
-A hippy van.
-A firework store that shoots fireworks everywhere when you destroy it.
-A Easter egg. It's literally a giant Easter egg. Hide it behind something
-Aliens w/ Crashed spaceship.
-Demo Truck disguised as an Ice-cream truck.
-Trains w/ train stations & tracks. Infantry can board the train cars when it stops at the station. They will be deployed out at the next stop.
-Subway trains. Work the same but go underground momentarily.
-Radio station. Provides radar if captured.
-Dog pound. Provides 8 Dogs once captured.
-Construction sites w/ half built buildings & whatnot.
-Quarter cliffs & Half cliffs. Hight wise, that is. This would satisfy allot of map makers.

Well the good news is a lot of that sounds to be just cosmetics. The bad news is that a lot of it sounds to be cosmetic :p

Hmm, I remember seeing an interior terrain art for RA2 somewhere (based on the RA1 one), but I can't find it anymore.

What about the Snow Tundra Theater Mental Omega is using?

 

You can get away with Urban Theater anyway as an interior tileset.

Maybe separating the Osprey and the Destroyer? A standalone osprey can do much more things...

That doesn't sound like a good idea: this will leave the destroyer without any means to fight submarines, unless you force-attack them manually or somehow cause the subs to surface. Or do you wish to give Destroyer an alternative weapon?

 

On the second thought, WWII cruisers (at least IJN ones) had torpedo tubes...

That would be just an improved Typhoon if it used torpedoes :p

How about for the fourth side a flying infantry production facility that resembles the Thor gunship but has three

Ion jets on the both sides and on the back and is armed with a Tau Cannon. Lets call it the Gateway of Foehn costing 2350.

That's actually something I wonder, if it's possible to have more production structures than the usual Barracks/War Factory/Shipyard/Airforce HQ.

And if it's possible, what would be this miraculous 5th unit type would be?

We already have Infantry, Units, Planes and Ships. What else?

 

Maybe a sort of battle train unit, which you'd have to build tracks for and it would act as a moving turret around the base!

 

Or, there could be a separate factory for producing the Centurion Siege Crawler, as it is kinda ridiculously bigger than a War Factory and looks weird. And also adds an extra subtier for producing such a hero unit. Maybe the same for Irkalla as well.

There were ideas before about Irkalla/Centurion production facilities but they were dropped off. Tho that could help with techrushing to those units in multi.

It is feasible but do note that all these units will still build off the Infantry/Vehicle/Aircraft/Naval Unit Queues from that suggestion I imagined it would just be an armed super unit comparable Irkalla/Centurion with a secondary ability of being able to deploy into a barracks... which is... eh.

Train tracks like in TS and those added by terrain expansions/Mental Omega aren't buildings but Overlays.

You can't build tracks, you just add them with the map creator(Final Alert)

By default, yes. Doesn't mean anything. Though I guess it would be too much of an engine addition to have units working on a new kind of structure. So likely not possible.

In the "Irkalla Rises" video, it appears out of nowhere from the ground, which gives me an idea.

What if the Irkalla was an invisible building (constructed via the buildings tag) that can unpack into the flying thing it is / deploy into the stealth structure it was.

I understand that invisible structures lag the game (From 2.0) but just one won't hurt, will it?

 

The Centurion could just be built from a special factory, like the MARV in C&C3.
