If anyone still had any doubts about China's involvement with Foehn, I think that confirms it (If the soviet schemed Mastodon, Foehn's heavy style, and the mention of China taking Kanegawa stuff failed to prove this already)

Meh, more evidence is always good. Now the real question is, why did China make the Gharial? And what is its purpose? I'm going to guess it's sorta like the Armadillo/Borillo but with anti-air capabilities and different weapons overall. Both vehicles are amphibious with boxy APC designs, perhaps to them the Armadillo wasn't enough as it couldn't fend off the Allies' superior air forces? Plus we haven't seen the dedicated APC of Foehn yet, so the Gharial could indeed fill that role.

Or there's always the possibility that Foehn yanked the Gharial's design in the same way Yuri rooted around in the Soviet archives for the Lasher blueprints.

...Just trying to keep an open mind. There's more ways to gain designs and combat doctrine than direct alliance after all. "Positive bias"; it's subconsciously easier to draw connections so that known facts fit one's hypothesis than to think up tests to spot the facts that don't.

(FYI, I do actually support the Kanegawa/China theory, but like I said, I'm still open to the possibility we're missing something.)

but yuri had (mind controlled) spys, as the foehn spy couldn't get into a base without being seen once or twice (as they can't hide as other inf.)

but i can get behind the alliance idea or something of the short, after all just because you are "team-mates" doesn't mean you aren't getting screwed over :p

And the topic has been renamed! I feel like we might get a new version earlier than in 2 weeks! :p

Finally, with that page opened I can take the remaining cameos and translate them. Only Scavenger and Future Tank were missing until now!

Hmm.

The new Stolen Tech page contains some interesting info on Kanegawa, specifically down in the Future Tank Alpha segment.

Kanegawa Industries continued their work on a fully automated battle tank in several locations around Japan which had not yet been stormed by the Chinese forces.

[...]

The executives of KI decided to cease their plans for mass production of the then proposed X-1 prototype and destroy all data related to the vehicle when they realized that the Pacific Front wouldn't be able to defend them.

It wasn't until many years later that the Future Tank Project was resurrected by the people who reactivated some of the now long forgotten Kanegawa Industries research facilities in Japan and completed the Alpha prototype using their advanced technology.

This sort of suggests that even if Kanegawa's tech is in use by Foehn (and the fact that the Allies gain this unit by infiltrating a Foehn Cloud Piercer indicates it is), it wasn't taken with Kanegawa's consent.

Meanwhile, down in the Iron Dragon segment, it mentions how the tech there was in development near the border between North and South Korea - i.e. territories owned by China and the Pacific Front.  So perhaps the PF as a whole worked with China to create the Foehn, but did it without Kanegawa's willing assistance - and just outright stole the tech from Kanegawa.  Meanwhile, Kanegawa remains on the side of the Allies as a whole... or whatever's left of them at this point.

...Oh well, two weeks and maybe we'll get some concrete answers.

Well two weeks, or this friday night. :p

Also, in 3.3, in one of the Act 1 missions where you attack the Kanegawa campus, you can find disabled Jackal Racers in some side base. So definitely Kanegawa tech.

Hmm... Go back to the stolen tech roster and look at the prerequisites for building the Foehn vehicles. Apparently the Cloud Piercer, Cyberkernel, and Nanofiber Loom have expansions to them and are interchangeable? While that provides insight to the Foehn tech tree, it might mean Nanofiber Sync is limited to one subfaction, tragically. Thoughts on this?

That, or their expansions are subfaction limited. Like one subfaction can expand the Cloud Piercer, while the other can expand the Cyberkernel. After all, all stolen techs that steal from Foehn say that a Cloud Piercer have to be infiltrated.

Unlikely (EDIT: agreed with Solais though). Nanosynch is a core feature which gives you access to an entire infantry roster, I doubt the Loom is unique to Last Bastion or any other subfaction, unless the power can be granted by other 2 buildings from that list. We'll see. Perhaps by "expansion" a separate building is meant, like the harbringer tower seems to be related to the cloud piercer (it doesn't look like an upgrade for it), or the nanocoat regulator which may be related to either cyberkernel or the loom. We'll see soon™.

On a side note, I'm surprised noone noticed this:

Its firepower can be enhanced by 15% near a deployed SODAR Array.

That thing looks like a cooler version of TS sensor array. Foehn is GDI confirmed :p

Each of the Foehn subfactions has access to the Nanofiber Sync, that's a support power enabled by the Loom, without any upgrades.

Foehn is GDI-Dark. :shiftee:

Even if we consider the old origins of Yuri. Also, Scorpion Cell.

The name 'Unthinkable' in Epsilon Act 2 kind of scares me. Maybe it's because the title is similar to Soviet 11 : 'Unshakeable'

Also, Syckle's description's end line

But the truth probably is the Soviets wanted to have a cool bike of their own.

lol
