Then recheck what has been missing in the logs. Make sure you get the correct extensions as well

Hey guys, i tried to install MO but I'm getting a crash on startup. when i launch MentalOmegaClient.exe windows pops up almost immediately with "DTA Client has stopped working".

I've tried setting all of the exe's to run as admin as well as XP-SP3 comparability  (with and without)

I've tried running MO by copying the named files in the readme and by pasting all of the files into the original install folder.

I've tried both clean installs of the RA2 as well as my CnCNet version with the resolution fixes.

The program seems to be crashing before it even tries to generate any sort of log file.

My copy of RA2&YR is from origin, the ultimate collection.

OS is windows 8.1, cpu is intel i73930K, gpu is nvidia 980ti.

What am i doing wrong here?

Edit: while i dont have a syringe log i DO have a client.log

Just posting to help out people with the same environment as mine who wants to play Mental Omega (tested version 3.3):

  • Wants to run the game on a Linux machine (tested on Ubuntu)
  • Will use Wine to do the job (tested on v2.0.3)

You will need to perform the initial steps somewhere else (tested on a VirtualBox Windows XP SP3 machine with NTFS filesystem).

  1. Install the base games (RA2) and the YR extension (no need to manually install the RA2 1.006 patch as the YR installer will do this for you).
  2. Manually install the YR 1.001 patch.
  3. Create an empty folder for Mental Omega (still at the other environment, this case the aforementioned VBox WinXP).
  4. Download the game's files (and the separate soundtrack zip as well) and extract them into this new folder (I'll call it the Mental Omega folder from now on). (I think I forgot to manually add the Mental Omega 3.3.2 patch here. Although it should work, you may want to add it later).
  5. Copy the necessary files for Mental Omega to work from the YR's installation folder (usually C:/Westwood/RA2) into the Mental Omega folder (the .mix, .dll and .exe files listed by the OP in this thread).
  6. Create a Zip file containing all the contents within the Mental Omega folder (I'll call it MentalOmega.zip from now on).

Now, somehow, transfer the MentalOmega.zip file to your Linux machine. Then perform the following 10 steps towards happiness:

  1. Unzip MentalOmega.zip into some folder where you have write permissions.
  2. Make sure you have Wine installed in your machine by opening a new Terminal window (typing "gnome-terminal" on a search bar may help) and then running "wine --version". Something like "wine-2.0.3" should be responded to you in case Wine is indeed installed. Otherwise, seek help installing it.
  3. Now make sure you have the "winetricks" tool installed (with the "winetricks --version" command). You may not, in which case you can install with the following command on Ubuntu: "wget http://winetricks.go...src/winetricks; sudo apt-get install winetricks"). Seek help installing it in some other environment.
  4. Now go ahead and create a win32 Wine architecture and install XNA 4.0 at the same time with the command: "env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32 winetricks xna40".
  5. Then, open the Wine configuration (by typing "winecfg" in your Terminal). Make sure the selected "Windows Version" is Windows XP, on the "Applications" tab. Now go to the "Libraries" tab and write "ddraw" into the "New override for library" field then click "Add". Click "OK" in the popup that will show up asking if you want to mess with this system library. A new entry will be added, corresponding to ddraw. Select it, then click "Edit", then choose "Native (Windows"). Proceed to do the same things as before, but now typing "wsock32" instead of "ddraw". You shall end up with both libraries being listed as having overrides making sure the "Native (Windows)" version is used. Remember to save your configuration changes by clicking "OK" afterwards.
  6. Now, still in your Terminal window, navigate to the Mental Omega folder (created when you extracted MentalOmega.zip somewhere).
  7. Rename the following ".xnb" files (you could remove them but for good measure just rename them into something else):
    • "./Resources/chaoticimpulse.xnb"
    • "./Resources/mainmenu.xnb"
  8. Then rename the following ".wav" files (again, you could just remove them but let's keep a backup):
    • "./Resources/leavegame.wav"
    • "./Resources/MainMenu/button.wav"
    • "./Resources/button.wav"
    • "./Resources/checkbox.wav"
    • "./Resources/dropdown.wav"
    • "./Resources/pm.wav"
    • "./Resources/lobbymusic.wav"
    • "./Resources/joingame.wav"
    • "./Resources/message.wav"
    • "./Resources/gamecreated.wav"
  9. Doing the renaming procedures mentioned above will cause the Mental Omega Client to be mute, completely soundless... which is kinda lame. But better than nothing as at least now it works (and the actual game is still fully functional with sounds and music and etc.). For some reason XNA crashes when trying to execute these sound and game files.
  10. Finally, type: "env WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32 wine Resources/clientxna.exe" to actually launch the Client (and launching the game through the mute client shall work as expected now)!

That works, i can plan a full match. the OpenGL one also brings up the launcher, although i haven't tried a match with it. its only the DirectX one that fails, which is weird because XNA uses DirectX 9...  :whathuh:

Regardless, thanks a bunch, having a lot of fun playing.

I'm having a puzzling problem where the game runs fine except when the mouse moves, experiencing severe slow down. I've tried different renderers in the options and different compatability modes for the exes.

My friend has a problem similar to this one: https://forums.cncne...43-i-dont-load/

firewall, antivirus are off.

all .exe run as admin.

server tunnel that we're using is fine. (tested without him)

singleplayer skirmish, campaign work fine.

CnCNet's RA2/YR work fine. but not MO. (same tunnel.)

his game file is a copied from me.

tried all tunnels.

Win10 Build 16299 (lastest)

On my loading screen, I see all the players are loading include him. then We're all getting into the game when everyone is finished (except him, still waiting for other players at the loading screen). All players' game is freeze at this point and got error "Other system not responding." and, all back to the lobby.

his syringe.log
