Nah, I don't like that. Rohan has one and that's enough for me. I wouldn't mind seeing a leadership bonus though, either a normal one or one that gives them a bonus when near Theoden. Hmmm...

So what do their [the Ravens] banner carriers look like?

They would just come individually, and not have levels or be upgradable.

General Zeinlafol has given us an excellent example of why we shouldn't jump to conclusions.
Yes the Erebor Ravens are non-combat scouts.

And yes, Isengard is getting Crebain; Mirkwood is getting a Hawk (from Radagast) and Dale is getting Thrushes. (How's that for a bird theme :crazed:

The RA Royal Guard will be a unique elite cavalry unit.

Personly, I think the bird units should be with some kind of falconer-like unit. I don't like the idea of bird units by them selves, especialy if they don't have some kind of landing ability.

Dwarven cavalry? I hope you guys have something clever planned for this.

What makes you think that the Dwarves have cavalry? It's been confirmed that they don't.

Oh, well that's a reasonable misunderstanding. The Royal Guards he was talking about were the Rohan Royal Guards.

Nah, the birds would be fine just being pure scout units. That's pretty much all birds can do; if they come up agaist a soldier with a sword (or worse still, a bow!) who's gonna win?

Actually, a few questions about the bird units: 1) will they be purchaseable or summoned, 2) will there be a limit as to how many you can buy, and 3) will they be able to be detected and if so, shot down? Just something to make sure I know what I'm talking about here.

Please don't go with EALA's 'wagon' idea! ;) I wouldn't mind seeing something out of Eragon where Dwarven cavalry is concerned, even though it doesn't relate to Tolkien whatsoever. In my opinion Eragon covered Dwarven cavalry up pretty well, making them ride on those goat-like creatures (it's almost funny :p). It would be the crappiest cavalry out there but still it should have one unique strength. Anyway I'm rambling now.

uh....the bird. think about it. it would scare the f*ck out of you if you were sitting there and a bird flew in your face and started scratching your face. ;)
as long as Erebor has other ways of fighting, i could care less if they have horses.

I was in my friend's car once when a bird flew in and scared the hell out of my friend. He stopped the car in the middle of the street and opened his door and when the bird flew out, he closed the window quickly and cursed at all birds. Lesson? They can be dangerous when your riding something.
Im sure there will be a grand strategy with dwarves, one without cavarly.

;)

Let me rephrase: a fully armed (with a helmet) soldier gets attacked, the bird won't have anywhere to strike, so the soldier would whack him one with his sword. Even if they didn't have armour on he would still whack them with his sword and the bird would leave him and tend to its own wounds.

I think we all understand that "ravens" cannot kill (or for that matter mortally injure) a soldier. Although they can be scary at times (alegedly) :p they cannot really kill an entire unit. Scouts it is then. I remember bats (in rotwk) having a sort of fear ability. That's the worst I see these "ravens with. But let's move on, I feel embarassed to have been the one to have started this talk on ravens as attack birds. It was silly of me to think such a dastardly thing.
