The first update of the year 2008 is here! I hope you all will enjoy this one, especially since I didn't post anything last week
First, I have some reskins. Rhudaur units, Spearmen and Axemen, have been reskinned:
Boldog, Structure Hero of Evil Men, has been redone as well:
His abilities have been changed a bit as well. His Inspire power now affects infantry, and his Lone Tower power has been replaced by Forces of the Ash Mountains, a power that summons a Goblin Sentry Tower and Black Orcs:
Morgomir of Mordor has got a few new powers, from which his Third of the Ulairi is the most noticable one, coding by Grizzlez:
Sharku's powers have been improved a bit:
Sharku's Chase the Prey power, coding by Beleg and IthronAiwendil:
Treebeard is now a proper Structure Hero, since he has levels and two new powers:
Haldir's High-res skin:
Thanks to the excellent skinner Eldarion from the WoA team, Gimli has been reskinned:
Eldarion has also provided some Legolas skins. Legolas in his Fellowship costume:
Bow of the Galadhrim:
Helm's Deep outfit (he now has a weapon toggle btw):
Price of Mirkwood outfit:
Now comes the most fun part of the update Cal suggested a new resource system for Men, which has now been implemented. You can now build 4 new resource structures, which all have their own upgrades. Caluadan has made all the new Structure and upgrade button art.
The Builder can toggle between two commandsets, Military and Civilian:
Farm, upgrades are Expanding Borders and Innovation:
Quarry, upgrades are Siege Materials and Engineering:
City House(s), civilians wander around them, upgrades are Woven Banners and Urbanisation:
Blacksmith, upgrades are Forged Blades and Heavy Armor:
House of Healing heals garrisoned units:
Finally, a WotE fan called Bloodyflash has taken some cool screenshots from the Dorwinion Beta:
NOTE: Chase the Prey button art by Vapula, March of the Ents button art by Caluadan. MotW porter commandset swap method by robnkarla. City House palantir art by Stealthsnake, edited by me.
To Cal: Sorry, but someof your ideas had to be replaced by my ones to make everything work ingame...

your changes to the upgrades were perfect, i see why you made them.
just one thing though...couldnt we use the new gondor buildings instead of the old ones? the new ones are far better skinned and seem more like buildings where you can live. great coding on the civilians btw, that idea was heavenly.

- What is Sharku's 2nd power ? Is it still the old "Tame the Beast" with a new button or was it replaced with something else ?
- How does Legolas gain his new outfits ? He gets them as he levels up, just like Aragorn does ?
---
"Well, I can't argue with that - modding IS hard. But what would have become of games like Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Dungeon Siege, Half-Life 1-2, Neverwinter Nights and BfME 1-2 if we, modders, weren't there ? They would have long been forgotten. Modding is hard, but it's an honorable thing." - MorrisB

- Sharku's 2nd power is Tame the Warg (=Tame the Beast) with a new buttonSweet stuff, matey. Two things, though:
- What is Sharku's 2nd power ? Is it still the old "Tame the Beast" with a new button or was it replaced with something else ?
- How does Legolas gain his new outfits ? He gets them as he levels up, just like Aragorn does ?
- Legolas gains his new skins just like Aragorn, and with each outfit he also gains a damage/vision or armor/health boost.
Thanks for the feedback Cal, I think the civilian thing is awesome too, but your ideas were the thing that really started the whole resource system...

1.: Hobbit faction will NOT be created in WotE. It's settled. While myself (and probably other team members, too) find the idea interesting and we could easily develop the basic concepts within a short time, making up entire factions in a good way still remains a very, VERY hard work. Especially since Ithron wishes to spend less time on modding from now on.*
*this - fortunately - does NOT mean that he will retire
2.: ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE STAFF (dunno if some other Staff member already did this, so...)
The release of the Beta will be delayed. It will come out in February, if things proceed well. Stay tuned

the other RBs do aswell, but only half as much (while these ones, on the other hand, give more resources)

PS: not as if I'd hate EA games, but the experience I've had from some (?) of their games makes me tell about the thing above (if any EA programmer is scanning this page, please correct me if I'm wrong)
