If you think I'd remove Sauron, you're way off... lol

I'm not saying remove Sauron, I'm saying he should have been in the Mordor faction as a normal hero from the beginning because I don't like Ring Hero's and think its one of EA's worse idea's

Still, since we've gotta have the Ring Hero's, Tom is an all around better RH than Galadriel because its not such a HUGE breech of realism :p

I was going to offer ideas for the ring-heroes, then I realized that Naz doesnt want anymore, so sorry about that. Anyway, I like the idea of Tom Bombadil replacing Galadriel, and a possible Saruman for Isengard. Hell, give Bombadil to Men and Dwarves, Galadriel to Elves, and for Evil get Mordor and Gobbies to have Sauron and for Isengard get Saruman. That way you can still retain the original ones, yet get the new ones as well. If that's the way you want to do it of course :p

And to solve the good-side ring-hero problem, make it you're finding Nenya for Galadriel (sounds absurd because she probably never lets it out of her grasp, but just bear with me; I mean, you never know when a little gobbie might just steal from ya hehehe) and that some critter or another has it, make it you're looking for a wight that took a flower from the Old Forest (even more preposterous :D ) and keep Gollum as a seperate entity. Im not sure if having all three in every map or changing it so that only if the corresponding faction is played that the special one is as well means less coding either way, so it's up to you. Hell, I think my ideas suck and make no sense, but they're ideas I guess, so eh. Up to you :D

Damm I forgot there's no edit button for guests, so I mean with the wight-flower thing I meant thats Bombadil's drop thing.

Actually, Im not even sure if adding to that system like that is even possible. So sorry if I wasted you're time :(

Hehe no worries. Everyone's welcome with ideas ;)
They're not bad, it's a just a little off of my coding skill chart :D

For Beta 4.7 we'll have:
Sauron as Ring Hero for Evil sides, and Tom Bombadil for Good.

For BEta 4.8, I'll primarily go for Saruman for Isen. Other than that, I don't know. I still want another system for Good sides that excludes them using the Ring, but rather destoying it somehow.

I don't know how that can work, unless the good forces carry mount doom around with them everywhere. :D I thought Tom Bombadil wasn't effected by the ring.

Edit: The whole ring hero doesn't make sense. Sauron is the only one who can completely use it, and it just doesn't work for balancing with the other ones.

To be realistic, Gondor's ring hero would probably be Denethor, but he would be so useless.

it would be cool if you could make sauron a bit stronger - he swings his mace too slowly IMO - in the film he swung it pretty quickly and also horizontally, not just vertically - i know that would make him a bit overpowered but he IS sauron - in the film everybody was too afraid to hit him, they just stood there while he knocked entire batallions out of the way - so maybe he could have a passive fear-inducing ability too that makes it difficult for armies to get close to him

i'm just throwing ideas out there atm, but it would definitely be cool to make him a bit stronger =)

Tom Bombadil fits very well for the Goods ring hero actually...

Because the ring didn't have any effect on him, it can't corrupt him..
It will however, corrupt any other wielder, so why not give it to the only one not affected by it's corrupting? :D
Of course, I wouldn't have made him as good as Sauron is when he's got the ring (atleast in the vanilla), but yeah..
Good enough, and any good enough hero is better to get than having to fight a tough one ;)

You know at first Tom sounded like a rediculous idea, but the more I think about it, it makes sense. He cant be corrupted by it, so it doesnt affect him. even in the books it was implied that Tom could guard the ring, but ultimately they chose a different course, because he might forget the serious nature of the ring and lose it, or Sauron would eventually destroy everything until all that was left was tom.

You got my vote! :ninja:

That shouldn't be hard, just give him all of the powers Galadrials ring form has - like the wind storm and all that.

Glad everyone likes my idea :ninja: I knew I had the makings of a genius lol

It's a great idea and a perfect compromise in lack of higher coding possibilities :ninja:

Oh, I never thought of it from that point of view. I like that. Are the ring heroes going to have more than two powers?

Sometimes it's better not to think "Hm, who can get most powerful?" :shiftee:

And yes, the council wanted to give the ring to Tom, but expected him to forget about it

I am here to give my support to the Tom idea, but the power to summon will have to be taken off of the good power trees and replaced.

Well. in the single-player campaign, there are abilities that aren't seen in the normal power tree... perhaps that bonus that amps up the power and health of hero's? The passive ability with the leaf picture?

Or, since you can summon an Elven and a MOTW horde, perhaps adding the KD Veterans from the dwarf faction as a four-unit summon would be a good replacement?

if you want to make the good factions have to destroy the ring, then how about this:

When Gollum is killed, you pick up the ring. This hero/unit (in order to make it seem as if the ring is weighing them down) becomes much slower on their way back to the fortress. When destroyed, all enemy units should get crippled in some way (like 25-50% less health, or less speed, or less armor or damage)

Then perhaps there could be a way to "re-forge" the ring as evil for like 20,000 resources (only after its been destoryed)

This might be hard to do, but I think it would be pretty cool. (Imagine your evil and siegeing a base and all of a sudden your units get massacred :crazed: )

Bombadil it is for Good then :crazed: I was just wondering if you could keep Galadriel for Elves hehe.

I think that making Tom more of a leadership, yet still extremely powerful, ring-hero would work in favour of good, as well as making him a lot more cheaper than Sauron, if you're planning on balancing the two against each-other properly I guess. Make Sauron cost one and a half times as much, or double if you prefer, up his strength and attack speed and give him some new abilities to truly olbiterate those that oppose him

Sauron is powerful enough as he is though I guess, but I still think EA could have done a much better job on him; I mean, he is the main villain in the movies and the books, and the games are based on those (even though BFME 2 and ROTWK are done more off the Silmarillion and notes).

Also..........Saruman for 4.8 sounds good; just make him stronger and make his abilities more powerful. That's all you really have to do for him hehe.
