Yes, but you can't get just troops from nothing. You train civilians to be soldiers. If possible I'd only let Gondor do this one Gondor maps. In fact I'd like to see homefield advantage for all factions.

What advantages would you get if you had homefeild advantage, would it differ per region?

I don't know. It just depends upon how you perceive Homefield Advantage. Would it be faster units? Or higher attack? Just depends on one's views.

Maybe if the home region was getting attacked they would have a defensive bonus and a slight increase in troop production, and if they were retaking a home region it would be an increase in speed and attack?

That's an awful idea for skirmish.

But rob is gonna try and do something along the lines for wotr, but this isn't really the place to discuss it.

How about attrition damage for Gondor? But then the question always arises as to who is more defensive; the Men of Gondor, or the Dwarves.

EDIT: Coming to think of it, I think some factions already have something of this sort in place already, in the form of a Fortress upgrade which slowly destroys the attacking army.

I was thinking that the map would benifit the home team. Like Gondor would have the house thing at their cities, or a few groups of rangers at Ithilian. Or like Mordor would always have darkness in Mordor.

mmmm IMO houses are better than blacksmiths... more unique, more original and more visually pleasing. All Gondor buildings except the farms give you the feeling you are building a city. It's like you are building huge structures of solid stone and suddenly... wow a crappy wheat-roofed farm...
Blacksmiths would be obviously be better than farms, but still they would not achieve that city feeling the houses can give.

Thatch, the roof is thatch. But I digress. That feeling of large stone city is what Gondor needs, But I agree that it would be silly to have civilians in mordor. Or any far flung battlefield too.

Wha? No, I mean if mordor were to have the building system, they could have slaves instead of civilians.

ok, i have arrived to backup yoda! after reading 4+ pages im just gonna summarize my opinions.

this house system is complexity for the sake of complexity, not realism or gameplay. blacksmiths make more sense and would be plenty unique. they could be the most expensive resource buildings in the game at 400 (what they were in bfme1) and would have more armor and added functionality.

im positive that i forgot something as i sit here distracted and wondering what it was that i wanted to say so ill be back...

EDIT: i now remember that i wanted to say that there is less realism in building a city on a battlefield than there is in building a barracks and having a somewhat endless supply of soldiers.
