Okay then I give up to "Tolkiens" dwarves bearing nothing in mind to the physical constraints of man... after all I suppose fantasy is fantasy for a reason....

I think your depiction of a Dwarf (in the Tolkien sense) maybe one of a Dwarf being rather fat as well as muscular; so much so that this is a big hindrance. This was not so, and the best evidence is The Hobbit, where Tolkien's vision clearly allows Dwarves to make use of bows.

Damn, sounded like I was rubbing it in whereas I was just trying to win you over because you still seemed unconvinced. Sorry about that.

Nonetheless, I like Dalf's idea best with re to the above.

Also, any word on whether Dwarves was to be changed to Erebor. Imo, that is more appropriate.

How about the Dwarves have a stand alone catapult. The catapult that you can build on the side of the fortress but it can be built anywhere, but it has a limit of 5?

I think that's a good idea...

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

I had the meaning of life in my signature, but it exceeded the character limit.

yeah, definitely been suggested a few times before (to resounding acceptance iirc) but a good idea nonetheless. i suppose bumping the idea back up is good in this case ;)

I guess it could work like Gondor's Worker unit in the private beta (sorry but I've just can't remember his right "unit name") where, (when built) you'd click on him and he'd only have the option of building a cata-emplacement? But that's just one idea as to how this cata-emplacement system could work out....

Edited: for really reasons that I'm way too embarrassed to say.

In order for cata emplacements to be useful, they need to be able to be used offensively, because there really is no point in putting more spots on the fortress to add catas. Thus, they should have a very quick build time so that your builder can create several to help take down the enemy fortress before you actually win. They should also be inexpensive, and I see no reason to limit the number of them you can have.

i dont see why they would ever be limited either, because, since they cant move, they would be very easy to counter; simply get up close to them and they cant touch you. so they would only be useful as permanent defense emplacements or help during a siege.
i dont really think they should be all that cheap, but they could be quick to build. you dont want someone to just put up like 2 or 3 battalions of units to gaurd their emplacements and jsut chip away from afar. i think the cost would help to counter that.
should htey be able to swivel/turn? realistically, i wouldnt think that they would, but it might be better for gameplay. then again it might detract from the strategy/forethought required when building them.

Maybe only in a forty-five degree area from the regular direction of fire?
