i was going to suggest an onager since it hasnt been used anywhere yet.

and AA, we should probably stray away from delving into the efficiency (or lack thereof) and realistics of the siege weapons in the game as it most likely cant be helped.

although an immobile trebuchet (or catapult/onager) that is built on site would be unique enough. or did we already talk about this for the dwarves?

The Treb should be like AOE 2's treb or the RA treb. It is much more realistic.

Maybe something connected to fire more than crush damage for more uniqueness and diversity? Something like a chinese flamethrower

Or a Greek one

Packable trebuchets would be good for either Gondor or Arnor, and I remember suggesting a fixed, immobile cata in the Dwarf thread a while back but that would better suit the Dwarves, who are more of a defensive faction and need more to emphasize that.

The Treb needs to be fixable. If it was really on wheels it would be a freakin' nightmare to control. For Dwarves I was thinking sappers.

Onagers are different from Catapults, Onagers use twisted ropes to create pressure, and Catapults just use counter waits.

Catapult

You could also use a Mangonel, which is basically another word for Catapult, or even a Roman style Ballista...

I might get mauled for this, but how about Dwarven Sappers that can set explosives?

P.S. Spring Engines were very reliable, and they were used a lot.

That catapult is a torsion device not a counter weight device.

I don't understand what a sapper is. Someone care to elaborate? Because I'm getting a picture of a maple tree where the pitch is used to make bombs instead of syrup.

It's a soldier whose purpose is to take down walls and buildings. In reality, they were given excavation equipment (picks, shovels, and such) and were used to dig out under walls or other obstructions for the main army...not explosives :good:

Well my idea was this: The sapper is like a builder, except they only build a mine. So they can build a mine and then the mine has an attack radius, a large one. You then tell the mine to attack a wall section. So the sappers start "digging" after a good amount of time the wall collapses. I was thinking like 90 secs and a take down of three wall pieces. It would be far enough away from the wall so that the wall defenses couldn't attack it. So to destroy it you need to use units. It just seems really Dwarvish to me.

I meant that they would have an ability to set explosives, and mine the way AA suggested.

I guess you are right AA, I'll try to find another picture. Here are some more possible siege units for Arnor...
Some type of Siege Crossbow.

I also like the packable/unpackable Trebuchet idea.

I like that top one. It fits the Arnor/Gondor need for anti-unit siege.

I personally like the Ballista (the weapon not the name), since it isn't used by any other factions, while the Siege Crossbow is already used by two (also the weapon and not the name).

Isn't that a scorpion?

Either way, looks enough like one we should call it that to stop confusion with other ballista :thumbsupdrool:

I'm not an expert about the subject, but it does look pretty the same (the way it operates) as the AoE scorpion...
