How do you hold a knife and axe at the same time, and still be able to hold the knife strong enough to slash somebody. I know you can slash as pull the knife out, but not while you are holding something in each hand. Why can't they just use a double handed axe, and sometimes pull out a knife and slash with it?

Guys, they were hobbits!
They were peaceful people who would only go to war to defend themselves, and that happened 3 times... (counting the Battle of Fornost)
They could not possibly wield a knife and an axe and use them properly...
In my opinion, hobbits should be renamed to shirrifs, and keep their sticks, but change their rock throwing ability to a shortbow toggle (a lot more hobbit like: shiriffs were said to use bows in the scouring of the shire and in many other cases, and stats would kbe kept the same)
pitchforks should be militia, who use long farming tools: scythes, pitchforks, long-handled hatchets and smithing hammers. They would still be able to realistically deal some hard damage to cavalry while keeping their militia look. I never heard of a special pitchfork hobbit division anyway...
'Tall ships and tall kings
three times three.
What brought they from the foundered land
over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
and one white tree.'

Every Hobbit would have a knife, what else do you use to gut your meal, a rake? In the Scouring of the Shire Tolkien describes them using knifes, axes, and other basic tools, and they used them with a lot of affect :glare: The Shirrifs never used bows in the books, the guys who did were just plain old Hobbits, nothing special.

A sheriff wasn't really anything special. They didn't get training in how to fight. They were like the early english police.

Imo they should be like the orcs and have a bunch of different varients in one horde; like some hobbits have axes, some have knives, and some have sticks/staffs and then they all throw rocks.

For the Hobbits with knives/swords/axes, they use the Hobbit hero anims and for the 1s with sticks, they use the current anims.

If u have Hobbits with 2 weapons in each hand, then u'd need to do new anims.

I like that a lot more than Hobbits with two weapons :glare: But what about the bows?

hobbits didn't really have an army as such, but if they did mobilise into some form of mob then I reckon they'd use pitchforks, scithes and any other available tools which could be used as weaponry kinda like the rohan peasants.

I hate the rock throwing. It doesn't make sense.

To Ed of the 3rd Kind: That's what we plan to give the Hobbit Militia, or whatever Dalf32 lets us call them :thumbsupsmiley:
To Dojob: They didn't throw rocks in the books, and I would much rather use a bow over a rock, even if I had a really strong throwing arm :glare:

For once I'm agreeing with AA IP'er ;)

So what is the plan so far? Rename the Hobbit Pitchforks to something (most likely Militia), and give them forks, scythes, bills, and other long farm tools. Then rename Hobbits to Hobbit Shirrifs, make it so some of them single handed axes, knifes, and clubs/staffs and the rest double handed staffs and axes, and make it so they use a bow instead of throwing rocks.

Personally I would like a separate Archer unit, and let the Shirrifs keep the rock throw ability, but the rock throwing is kind of silly, and they need the toggle to keep them unique.

I also want to let everyone know that I'm going on vacation over the weekend to a place without computers, and I won't be back until either late Sunday or Monday.

the rock throwing is just so unbelievably stupid, i mean if they are going to go to the bother of organizing some form of militia why would they go around with rocks when a bow and arrow would be lighter and more efficient....

Meh, it's still more boring imo.

I mean, they already have like 4 archer units, i dont think they need more with bows. Hobbit rock throwers just feel kinda fresh, interesting, and unique whereas if u give them bows it would feel generic imo.

And it's much more humiliating for people to see their units getting owned by rocks than bows which is definitely a good thing XD.

But if the bows do as much damage and have the same range and rate-of-fire as rocks, then they could be lazer beams for all i care. If most people want bows, then i'll leave my arguments here and accept it; i just wanted to get my opinion across.

It isn't the stats and gameplay of the rocks. It is the fact that they are throwing rocks. I mean it is silly. Nobody could throw that hard. Plus it would lack concussive force.

Agreed...absolutely silly. As unique as it may be, it makes no practical sense. Sorry, dojob :glare:

Anyway..just finished reading the Scouring of the Shire chapter. As in, read it. Not going off of a vague memory :thumbsupsmiley: it says that the group of Hobbits assembled to toss out Sharkey's men wielded an assortment of farm tools and other mundane weapons; axes, pitchforks, hunting bows, butchering knives, a few stout staves.

Alright, I'll concede on this since having bows isn't as bad as getting rid of Hobbits all together :glare:
