Sorry, just played a game with no CaH whatsover and the bug struck. I should note that I was playing on my own map though, not one that comes with S.E.E.

I was just getting all excited when i read Lord Of The Rings Junkie's post - I hope it is his custom map or whatever.

I have just tested my save / load bug with skirmish games involving no custom (create) a hero - SUCESS.

Tried 3 saves at start, mid and end game and all load fine with the ' allow custom hero ' option turned off.

Can't believe it was that simple - well - it still would be better if we could fix the CAH problem but at least we know where to look.

I should also mention that i have also removed the ' gamedata.ini ' file out of the object folder as suggested a while ago by Sul and also have installed the SEE mod to my 'C ' drive as per Naz's new improved install guide.

SO - it could just be the CAH problem or a combination of any of the 3 things i have just done.

Obviously - it is still early days yet and needs more testing and similar good reports from others with the bug - BUT - things are looking up.

I must do more testing soon since i have the PC game The Witcher coming tomorrow and that might engulf me for a few weeks - depends how good it is?

Games may come and go but BFME2 SEE is here to stay - LOL.

Did the AI also not make use of CaH? In other words, did you switch of the build ooption entirely?

Well put, it's the same way here... Through the ears I've enjoyed numerous games, as well as movies, but I always return to my favourites... Lord of the Rings & Star Wars - Games as well as Movies

@LJ... I think it was your map. I've had 0% on the last 10-12 tries I made since I moved to ' -mod "E\SEE" ' and never use CaH =)

I had CaH totally switched off. I'll go try a regular map and report back...

Well folks - as far as i'm concerned - IT'S OFFICIAL!

The save / load bug is caused by a conflict with the create a hero option and SEE.

If you un-tic or deselect the ' allow custom heroes ' option before your skirmish battle - everything runs fine.

I have been testing this all day and i used to get the load error virtually every time i tried to load a save but with ' allow custom heroes ' turned off everything works.

I love the CAH option but not as much as i love SEE and all the improvements it brings.

So - if you like to save your skirmish battle occasionally and want to ensure that this bug doesn't suddenly strike - don't use CAH for the moment.

I will do some digging around and see if i can narrow down the create a hero conflict but don't hold your breath.

This bug might take a while to cure - if at all.

SOB - I had really done some good work on the CAH files as well - all ready to send to Sul for inspection.

P.S. Would help us all if anyone else who constantly had load problems would just confirm that this works for them as well.

It might be the famous hardcoded upgrade limit (the CaH uses A LOT of upgrades) but i need to count what we have already and see if changing some of the unique ones into generic ones will help.

Thanks for looking in to this Sul.

I know you probably can't spend ages on tracking down this bug as CAH is not a top priority but any help is appreciated.

I don't know anything about hardcoded upgrade limits etc and so i would be lost if this is the problem.

If you are not getting the save / load bug yourself then i would be happy to try out any changes you think might help and see if it cures the problem with CAH.

Just send me the changes as a PM attachment.

Anyway - good luck!

I'm interested; played allot of BFME2 games but never had any problems with CaH's of any sort

Do you recall where you saw something on a conflict? I hadn't seen anything on EA's forums on it but you might be onto something??

Thanks for any reference you can give!

i started an easy AI skirmish on helms deep. camped out and fended off attacks with archers and catapults. nothing big. i saved and exited game. later i resumed the game and built a CAH. leveled him up and saved and exited. got back on again and got the save error of doom

I would get that too when I enabled CaH and built one. However when you disable that option (and youobvisouyl dont build one) they save just fine.
How are you liking the SEE mod? Pretty cool, eh?
Oh and welcome to the forum!

Well i am quite happy about our findings. I'll soon try to find out exactly what the CaH problem is and try to fix it. Before that, we'll release 4.6 with a lot of other bugfixes though, since the supposed CaH bug might take some to tackle.

i just tried the CAH fix. it worked! except one issue: i disabled CAhs (obviously). but on the heroes menu elrond wasnt there and a create a hero was. so i built legolas, leveled him up, saved and exited during a lot of action. opened the game back and resumed the game succesfully.

update: same helms deep battle. no CAH. but, on the hero menu, there is one named "Create a hero". i built it. i got a default MOTW hero with no weapons. the only things on the powers menu was an attack move order and stop order. i tried attacking an enemy but couldnt (i guess because he had no weapon)

ok well this is makin my brain hurt and its late

im gonna go play halo
