Not everything related to CaH belongs here, only stuff about the specific 'Saved-Games'-Bug. If you read the Bug thread, you will also see that specifc CaH bug being mentioned several times.

And another note... I think I have said this about 5356 times now though... FORTRESS MAPS ARE NOT FULLY EDITED YET :p I know you're new Jewbacca and haven't had a chance to read up on that... but maybe I should make a Pinned note about this here in Support or something, cause we get a LOT of reports on Fortress Maps... and like I said - they still require some editing to function with the rest of the mod =p

Hey guys,
I've unchecked the CaH option before playing skirmish and I'm getting this error when attempting to load a saved game. Still happened after deleting a custom hero I made under previous version too.

So, there you go....

ive unchecked the CAHs and that fixed worked great for a while. now ive got save errors again. i have no idea why. they were both on custom maps so that might have somethin to do with it. im gonna go see if i can load a saved game on a non custom map

Hmm one thing to note, a while back in this thread I said I never had(have) savegame problems with SEE.

Now this might be not only because I don't use CaH but also because I always play skirmish games WITHOUT the random made heroes.

If I am correct these random heroes were also made by EA inside the CaH program, maybe this could be a lead?

I’m relatively new to playing BFME2 and have the save game bug when using SEE. In hindsight I believe all my crashes took place on games where a custom hero was involved. Having read over everything here I just wanted confirmation that deselecting CAH is the only thing necessary to fix the bug, true? Is it still necessary move the SEE file and/or delete the gamadata.ini file as described early on? Any help in saving unnecessary steps would be appreciated…

Yes that is correct; just do not use the CAH's

If you installed the game as described by Nazgul in some of the early posts, and you got the game to work, you did great. No need to move it. Some people were having issues getting it to run and so they moved the folder to another location. I have mine in a different location than any of the instructions on here, and it works fine.

Sounds like you have it all figured out and are doing good.

Technically you CAN use the CAH heros... you just can't save :) I can save OUTSIDE of the map... in the 'whats your next move?' thing for the WOTR - just not in the battle itself.

So save BEFORE you go into battle and you shouldn't have a problem :p

SEE doesn't support WotR at all, I'm afraid, and probably never will. but the damned SGB (Saved Games Bug) is still a mystery. I never had it myself, and that's why I'm rather temped to say it's the CaH's fault (Since I never ever use CaH), but we're still not sure. So any further reports on this is excellent :')

Playing SEE:

CaH in Skirmish works, but it wont save

WOTR (with or without the CaH) crashes the game.

You probably arent running SEE Mod if you are either able to save in Skirmish mode with a CaH and/or play WoTR at all unless you are just using auto resolve all the time and no Real Time battles.

Nice to have you Guest

Actually, I DO have the mod installed... the new intro movie... the mordor background for the menu... I've got it all.

You CAN play WOTR - I know, I've played it, there are. However. Some limitations... none of the eagles or special hobbit hero's for the elves can be summoned, and if you use a CAH you CAN'T save during a battle. Otherwise the game works fine, you just can't save DURING battle.

lol, that's odd... but great in that case. You see - I never ever play WotR, and once when I tried (with SEE) back in the days, I think it was even before 4.5, it was missing like all the units added in SEE, and sporadically even crashed. The crashed might have been "cured" along the way, as we did get the Campaign to run more stable. But in no way nowhere along the line have WotR been involved in coding SEE. So is coded and made specically for:
1) Skirmish
and hopefully
2) Campaign
With any luck and/or extra time we'll also do
3) WotR

But as if now, you're/we're in luck if it works. I'd suppose most new units are missing though... :)

I went back through my posts because I recall we discussed this some time ago.

There are some things you can do in WoTR with the SEE mod, but it wont play as EA intended the game and the SEE mod doesnt allow that because (as repeated by Nazgul above) SEE does not support it.

You might be able to save at the map; but you wont keep any units you build in battle: they wont appear on the map when you return to it after battle.

You can build a CaH on the map, but it wont appear on the map. It will appear in battle at the place you build it, and you can make it in battle, but again you will not see it at the main map.

You can save in battle without the CaH, but when you save in game with the CaH, the game will crash.

So, back to what was said earlier, it doesnt work.

Unless you're the type to say your car runs just fine on three flat tires. :)

I NEVER said that it worked without flaws :p I just said it 'works' - the kind of 'works' that EA said worked originally :p

And you CAN save - I've got screenshots if you want them, I had a HORDE of catapults and soldiers marching on an enemy fortress, saved, I fought badly so they died and then I re-loaded and it worked. The CAH DOES spawn - but any hero that has been changed won't spawn - Legolas won't spawn for instance. The CAH does show up - and is a great fighter. You just can't load from a save you make if the CAH is present in a battle.

Oh my misunderstanding then. when you said

So save BEFORE you go into battle and you shouldn't have a problem

I took it you meant that was the only issue and all else was fine as if the Wotr mode had no other problems.

Right; as I noted above there are points you can save at. And also that the CAH will spawn in real time battle and also at the Risk-looking map; you can build there, but to repeat my comments above, you wont see the cah on the map, but you will see him in the real time battle. You can make an army in battle but do they show up on the main map when you exit out of the real time battle?

Just thought I would add; if you can enter a real time battle and build units and then exit to the map and see your units still there on the main map, then make a note of what steps you are taking to get that to happen, maybe you have found a work around for the problem many are having with wotr mode.

Thanks

Hey all, I have read over most of these posts and the CaH's presence causing the save glitch makes sense considering that whenever i have the crash from loading the CaH was present. But one thing bothers me and this is most likely because my new computer has Vista on it.

When i load a game and the error mesage comes up it says

error in loading file (or something like that) 'C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-Earth ™ II Files\Save\Saved Game 1. BFME2 Skirmish'

The problem is that this file directory does not exist (there is no AppData folder and nor is there My Anything Files), which leaves me to wonder what's going on here?

I put the SEE folder just in my C drive and my target for the shortcut reads
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II\lotrbfme2.exe" -mod "C:\SEE"
just in case that has anything to do with it.

Hey,

I hope I can help you out with this :)

Do you also get the error message if you play the game un-modded?

If not, try this:

I don't know a lot about this, but you should try to put the SEE folder in the folder "My Battle For Middle-Earth ™ II Files" (search for it), and just make the target line look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II\lotrbfme2.exe" -mod SEE

That's the only thing I could say, and I'm sorry if it won't work :(.

Vista does not use the same directory system that microsoft used for XP so there are no "My (whatever) Files" folders anywhere on my computer and nor is there an Application Data folder.

But I tried a game with the CaHs turned off and i managed to save and load just fine so it doesnt really matter.
