i've received an error when trying to extract all of the files

i'm using winzip, openned the 'rj_rotwk_1_06.rar' file, and it comes up with a huge list

i then clicked 'extract' and put it into the C drive (it's in the right place, i've checked), but near the very end, it says

Error: Access is denied
Error: unable to create output file "C:\RJ-RotWK 1.06.lnk"

... how do i make it not say this please :p

(and yeah, i am pretty noobish - sorry :/ )

Could be an incomplete download. How big is the .rar file?

i don't think it's that though :/ (then again, i have no idea at all, so maybe i shouldn't say anything)

the winzip i have is only the evaluation version, 'cos i only needed one to extract this, so i didn't want to pay for anything - could that be it?

i would try winRAR, but i have no idea which to get (again, noobish i know)

the trial version of winrar should work fine. it actually sounds to me like you don't have write access, although i highly doubt that that's it.

i guess try redownloading the rar file.

i've tried a downloading a couple of times with winzip, and it keeps coming up with the same message

the trial version of winRAR - which one do i want?

is it the 'x86 (32 bit)' or the 'x64 (64 bit)' ?

does it depend on my computer?

That depends on your OS (operating system). I suppose you have the 32 bit version. The difference between those OS's is that 32 bit only supports
-/+3.2Gb of RAM (2^32 in bits if I'm right) and 64 bit supports much more memory. You can always use the 32 bit (x86) version, because the 64 bit version supports 32 bit programs too :p.

sorry, so are you saying that i have a 32-bit version of winRAR, or a 32-bit OS ?

and also, i'm assuming if the 64-bit winRAR supports both 64-bit and 32-bit, that's the one to use then?

no sorry, I meant that the 64 bit OS supports 64 AND 32 bit Programs, while the 32 bit OS only supports 32 bit programs :p .

ah - so i should use the 32-bit version, becuse both types of OS will support it?

Yep :p. (when you have a 64 bit OS, you will have two program file maps, x86 (32 bit) and 64 bit. Programs which aren't made for 64 bit, come in the x86 map :p)

okay, well, i'm gonna ignore the bit about maps 'n stuff, 'cos i have no clue what you're talking about

it doesn't look like it will affect where i install anything, but feel free to correct me if i'm wrong

anyway, thank you very much, and i'll report back if winRAR doesn't work either :/

urm... winRAR's done the same thing as winzip did... but much more so:

I don't have much experience with vista/windows 7, not with this mod, but have you tried running it as administrator? :p

okay, wait, sorry

i've just clicked on the file in winRAR called 'RJ-RotWK 1.06.lnk', and the game started, with the mod loaded properly

i think i may have been trying to extract what didn't need to be extracted

just to clarify, 7 things appear in winRAR, once i've clicked on the downloaded 'rj_rotwk_1_06.rar' file :
.a folder called 'rj_rotwk_1_06
.5 notepad files (credits, installation, etc)
.a shortcut called 'rj-rotwk 1.06.lnk'

i think i only had to extract the stuff in the folder, right

...'cos now i look a fool :(

anyway, thanks for everyone's help, sorry i kinda wasted your time :(

You want to extract the folder as a whole to C, not the seperate files inside it. So once the whole folder is in your C drive, you can extract the shortcut (lnk file) to desktop and use that to run the mod.

He's probably using a translator.
