In my opinion, that reminds me too much of Caras Galadhon. When I think of the mirkwood elves Id honestly think of log cabin type structures with elven influences and architecture.

Yeah, the log cabin shaped like a rohan barracks is always how i imagined it :p I told rob on msn, he was like....what?! :p

Personally I like the idea of Mirkwood's buildings spawning a few trees around them when they're built.

Not a bad idea... of course.. no idea is a bad idea... unless they're hateful (Hitler, Exec. Order 9066).

"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world."
"From this seal shall arise the doom of men,"
"who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own."
"Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit."
"Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control."
"Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."

"Tremble, mortals, and despair! Doom has come to this world!"

He's overreacting, give him time.
Anyway...what exactly was your question? I checked the link but couldn't find your post. If you want to repost it I'll do my best to answer you.
EDIT: Well, what RA is doing, is that you can't attack stealthed structures unless you have a 'spotter' right up on them. Meaning you'd have to send in a horde to actually, physically locate the buildings before you can aim your catapults on them.
And to do that they have to get pass stealthed archers, etc.
Cheers,
-mike

***** Moving conversation from Arnor *****

First I have to say, wait for judgement until you give it a try. From those who've played a match with them, I don't think I've had one person yet dissatisfied on how they are turning out. True, the structures of Mirkwood and Rivendell have not been completed, and maybe they don't want to contradict me but here goes.

I do understand what you are saying, but let me walk you through the choices that I made:

1. In scripting the Rivendell mission in order to use archers I had to either use Lorien and/or Mirkwood archers as Rivendell only had horse archers. If I wanted pikes I had to use Mithlond. The swordmasters were in game for Arnor. This was just preposterous if I was going to work on the campaign I wanted. This was what forced my choice of breaking up elves, so that each region in the campaign could have specific units.

2. This would mean a full set of units, a near full-fledged faction for each group so they could fight a major battle when needed on their own.

3. The next decision after deciding to do all the units was whether they would be 1 or 3. With the upgrade limitations and the desire for many to keep CaH intact 3 was just not possible. Also, gameplay wise, I feel that they should be treated as one faction that works together instead of 3.

4. The first thought on how to handle was for it to be eye-candy only so as not to disrupt balance. Each faction's units would be exactly the same as the others, you just got to experience the look. This was also to keep this IMMENSLY MASSIVE HOBBY project a little lighter on us. The idea then was that you could call in allies, but it would not give you anything other than cool things to mess around with.

5. That would be a boring game, so I started exploring the individuality of each faction. The framework - each sub faction would have 1 sword/slash unit, 1 archer/pierce unit, 1 pike/specialist unit, 1 cavalry unit, 1 elite(archer or sword), and 1 toggle unit. The only difference that could be considered an advantage given this structure would be gaining 1 elite unit that you don't have. Sword if you are lorien or mirkwood, archer if you are rivendell. Thus a 3rd faction is really just for eye-candy. Sure the cavalry are slightly different, but it doesn't have an impact. So units-wise, they are roughly the same, and calling allies will give you a very slight supplement for the 2nd faction and virtually nothing except eye-candy for the 3rd. The adjustments/specializations of the faction are there, but are minor in the over-all picture. The units are put together with the faction as a whole in mind. Elves <> greater than all other factions.

6. Now what really seperates them? The structures, this is where the specializations are most relevant. Each sub-faction has their unique structures, special upgrades, and such. And they will never get access to the other sub-factions structures no matter how long the game lasts. Your builder gets the buildset of the sub-faciton and that is all. Here is where you get the fortress powers and ugprades that can specialize the sub-faction more than the units. It would be completely OP and not as challenging if you could access everything from one porter.

7. Now that there are special differences in the units, how will the alliances work to be similar to how they really would work as well as be balanced? That is where the beacon comes in. For a PRICE you can build a beacon on your fortress. From there you can call in for re-inforcements. Then you must WAIT for them to arrive and be available. 5-10 minutes before you have access to the first sub. While you are calling the first you cannot call the second. You must wait for them to arrive, unless you have a 2nd fortress would be an even longer wait. After this, you just can't build the units, you must have a place for them to stay when they have arrived before you can train them. For a PRICE, you can build a dormitory for them on your training grounds, and then you can purchase the units that you've purchased the building upgrades for. The bonus you get from a 2nd faction is about accurate for the cost. For the 3rd faction, there is really not any functional benefit...at this time.

I could site a huge number of reason/ideas about this, but this post is long enough. Again, I have not yet heard from anyone who has played the faction who thinks that they have been ruined in any fashion. I've specifically asked to find out if they even lived up to expectations and the answer has been yes.

Just give it a chance before you decide you don't like it,
Robert J.

nice clear up, at least some light in the mist of unsecurity.

Though i yet cant fully imagine how all of this will work, at least i can get a crude picture. All others will be seen in the game itself :p
