  •  The mapper behind the Battle of Five Armies beta4.7 =D

Posted 02 November 2008 - 06:45 AM

dude, how are you getting Caspian by Nov 9th?? no fair! i cant get it till Dec 2 even though i pre-ordered.

They filmed it in New Zealand (a lot of it quite near to where I live) so New Zealand gets first dibs on it's release, just like Lord of the Rings! It'll be the same when 'There and Back Again' is released, I'm sure of it.

me and Jeth will have to talk about what to map. i am already working on the Fords of Beruna, plan on doing Fords of Beruna 2, as well as the Lampost area. i suppose we will divide it up somehow. anyways, looking forward to mapping with you.

Sure thing, I'll just do whatever needs doing whenever you want me to! I'm looking forward to mapping with you, too! It'll be interesting working together as a team on this mod just to see the different mapping styles between us and to be able to chat about different ideas for maps etc. By the way, Jeth, will this mod be released as .big, because if it is then I can use it's units in Worlbuilder?

by the way how is your worldbuilder forum going?

Very good, I'm improving the map and doing new stuff to it literally every day! You're very welcome to pop by any time you like and post comments on the map. :p

Yeah, Disney may have pwned BBC on special effects, but BBC did do a good job for the tech of their time. (yep, I have the old BBC!)

Me too! Whole set on DVD and Video! I will admit that the BBC did do a very good job for their time.

My sister, Eruthiadwen, has her private "I so wanna do" list." She gets that right because she's head mapper, and yeah she is your boss, in a sense.

Awesome stuff. I don't mind what I do really, just as long as I can help out. Ah and Eruthiadwen is your sister? I didn't know that, that's cool. ^_^

So hold tight, let me (and whoever else has suggestions) do some brainstorming, and you'll have a list you can pick and choose from!

You know me too well, I'll probably pick them all and have them done in like 2 days! :p

Keep working on that Five Armies map! We don't want to see that suffer!

I will do! It'll always have top priority for me over everything else since it's my pride and joy. Btw, you might be interested to know that the Goblin Archers that appear next to your forces at the start of the map now come in 1.05 mins into the game, and my next move is to get the Goblin forces to arrive 2.07 mins into the game, the Eagles 8 odd minuites in and Beorn at 9 or so minuites!

Beta4.7 could be out sooner then I thought! ^_^

Well, I have a few map ideas... :good:

HERE THEY ARE!!!

Castle Telmar-2 (Many towers, courtyard can be easily covered by crossbowmen on the roofs, just like in the movie... *sniff* Poor Narnians...)

Aslan's How-3 (Kind of like the EA Erebor, but with Narnian architechture and only one entrance. If part of the hillside is destroyed the entrance becomes automatically blocked, and you have to attack the rubble to get through. Both sides can attack the hillside and the rubble, which is useful if you want to block your enemy coming out either way. A complex network of tunnels inside, and mineshaft-type buildings along with pitfalls for enemy forces in the plain. The outside mineshafts should be stealthed. Two players outside, one inside.)

The Stone Table-2 (A different map. Stone Table at the top of the hill, will be the base for one person, strong defenses)

The Witch's Castle-3 (Lots of space, but vulnerable to fire, statues for effect, and spawns wolves automatically. Two players outside, one inside.)

Beaver Dam-4 (Beaver dam should be the focal point of the map, maybe four players? Fall through the ice in places.)

The Frozen River-6 (with lots of damaging terrain, kind of like fire except... ice... and your people just fall down and die, like they fell through the ice)

I have more, if you'd like them. :p Regards, IRS

Edit: Oh yeah, will this mod have an installer? :p

those are good ideas, Ithilien and Ring! Keep it up guys! :good:

Unfortunetely, those ideas about falling through the ice are impossible to due in the textures of BFME I. (maybe even II as well). :p

Still, one could script the map perhaps so that every time a unit enters a certain area, they die.... :p

I need to look at a map of Narnia....and let's not limit ourselves to just movie locations! :cool2:

It's been a fair while since I posted (most of you have probably noticed that when I am gone for a while, I tend to be a bit...disshevelled when I get back.) I am fine, but My computer recently suffered Hard Drive failure, I've had a ghoul of a time trying to get a new one, and have been unable to work for a fair while.

On the bright side though, my doctors say I have made a full recovery from my near-death experience several weeks ago, andI will be back up and running this friday.
There is much I choose to conceal from the world. I live among people, though they hold little interest for me in times of normality. My life has been quiet, and confined to what little I can glimpse from the fractures of my high life. I am a king. My realm is not of this world, but how can one rule what exists not in reality? I am a writer. I am a king. I am...alone.

That might not work out if the terrain was plain looking. It should be discolored slightly, just like thin ice would be.

I have more map ideas. I'll add descriptions later.

The Western Wood- 8
Cair Paravel (Golden Age)- 3
Cair Paravel (Ruins)- 2
Ettensmoor, Country of the Giants- 6
Lone Islands- 4
Calormen- 8
Archenland- 6
Bism- 2
Underland- 3

That's all for now. I'll come back for more details.

I don't think Bism is required. They never even went there in the books, but only looked at it through the crack.

On the Ettensmoor map, you could have stone giant lairs. They could throw rocks, and be similar to the Mountain giants, or Ents, but more stony.
Greetings, community.

Glad to hear from you, Folca!

Good work Ithilien! Those are lots of great ideas! however.....

I think I need to stress a point. This mod is for BFME I, which means water is not traversable and is, in essence, impassable terrain. There are other restrictions too. Please keep that in mind when suggesting locales or ideas. ;) Unfortunetely, that crosses out Ithilien's Lone Islands suggestion. However, we could do one of the Lone Islands, including the city where Lucy, Edmund, Eustace, and Reepicheep almost got slave-auctioned.... ;)

Bism is definitely out of the question. No description at all to work with, although it could easily be imagined. if a lot of people demand it, I'll reconsider.

Calormen would be a big map! :) It's a big country! Let's split that up into several maps, say, one on Tashbaan and one of Shasta's village with it's surrounding countryside. Maybe even one of the desert between Calormen and Archenland? ;)

Stone giants would be really hard as a lair to bring down....if they are comparable to ents.....

I know that. What I meant by "Shasta's village" was the village that was close to him.

kk. NO ISLANDS. I get the picture. :p

Tashbaan- 4
The city should be very large and circular, and the citadel should be the Tisroc's palace. At least 14 build plots in the various sectors, especially in the market areas where it deviates from the usual narrow streets into a broad square. There should be three very wide roads leading up from each of the gates of Tashbaan (yes, it should have three. Merchants can't be bothered to walk that far :p) and the other three players should be lined up with the gates. To the [north?] of the city should be the Tombs of the Ancient Kings.

So what do you think? IRS

Dont forget the river. I Believe it flows across east-west and under the city. Upriver from the city was (If I remember right) too fast/deep to cross, but it is more calm on the other side, where there are some gardens and stuff.

Right, the river. Narrow on the western side, where there are lots of posh-looking buildings which, if destroyed, will yield large amounts of treasure. On the eastern side the river should broaden and should be uncrossable except for by a gigantic bridge. The Temple of Tash should be somewhere in there, and the Tisroc's palace will be nearby, surrounded by yet more build plots. Perhaps the palace should be sort of like a castle within itself, with walls and only one gate, for more... interesting... battles. :p So, what do you think?

I'd say inside the city, actually. I mean, people would have to get across the river somehow, and since boats are out in this we'd have to use a bridge even if there logically wouldn't have been one. But, logically, there would have been one. :p
