klementinos: Rohan easily has enough to be a seperate faction. If you look at how RJ-ROTWK has done Rohan, they have a lot of units for them. Sumin like 5 different types of cavalry. Infantry-wise: dismounted rohan royal guard, and yeoman infantry that can be used for spears, swords, axes, archers, and spear throwing.

I for one, would LOVE to see Rohan as a seperate faction. However, it won't let me vote, some kind of error :p

If Rohan does get included, can't wait to play as them! :p They will be fun. I think Rohan for 15 point power, should get summon 3 hunters Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli! ;)

AH MAN, THAT SUMMON SOUNDS LIKE AN AWESOME IDEA! KINDA LIKE GOING WITH THE ROHAN AS A SEPARATE FACTION IDEA! THANK GOODNESS THERE'S NO ONE ELSE WHO'S DONE EITHER OF THOSE THINGS! (insert RJ-S.E.E. comment here.) :p
Do not come between a Zach and his........Zach?

I'm glad this is happening. Merging Rohan and Gondor was one of the worst things EALA did with BFME2.

Since this mod is based of the movies first, there was plenty of obvious mistrust between Gondor and Rohan. Unlike the Shire and other regions which, although self-governing, became part of Aragorn's Reunited Kingdom, Rohan retained its independence.

In terms of gameplay, the two work so much better separated. Faction diversity was one of the big advantages of BFME that was lost in the sequel.

I'd like to see Rhun and Harad as separate factions too, but that's another thread.

Rohan and Gondor should not be split unless Rhun and Harad are as well. Rhun and Harad had less connection in the books and films than Rohan and Gondor, even, and need their own factions more than Gondor and Rohan do.

If Rohan and Gondor are to be split, Lothlorien and Mirkwood should be as well (as they had about the same amount of connection and Gondor and Rohan,) along with Rivendell. Dale, also, should be it's own faction, apart from Erebor... This just doesn't work for me.

The thing with Rhun and Harad is that we really know very little about them. However, in the movies they are little more than auxiliaries of Mordor and fight side by side with the orcs. It's also unclear in the films if any Elven or Dwarven realm fought at all...Legolas tells Gimli at one point that he fears that their homelands are also under attack, but that's the extent of it.

However, Rohan and Gondor have their own distinct identities based on the films. A merger of Mordor and Isengard makes about as much sense. In gameplay terms, there is simply no reason to build Rohan infantry when playing MotW in its current form...which is part of why EALA just did away with them.

G'day Dzhon

I agree with what you've said. Although I have to admit that in bfme1 rohan was my favourite :good: I guess at some point this mod has to make the choice of following the book or the movies. I could be wrong but I think nazgul has stated before that this is a mod of the movies more than the books. It can't be both and we still have to remember that it is an rts game it does have many limitations that we have to abide by ( balance of each faction ).

G'day!

BFME was better in so many ways. Certainly in terms of faction design, it was far and away better than the Swords>Pikes>Cavalry>Archers>Swords combat chain that is the basis of all BFME2 factions.

Rohan was fun. Mediocre fortifications and infantry compensated by great cav and heroes. I loved playing them in the campaign and trying to level up my Peasants and Yeomen into formidable units.

No, there is actually quite a lot of detail...here's a passage from LOTR wiki about the elves...

On March 11 Lothlórien was first attacked from Dol Guldur. It was attacked two further times, on the 15 and the 22. When the Dark Lord had fallen, Celeborn led his army out of Lórien, and crossed the Anduin. Dol Guldur was captured and destroyed by Galadriel.

Thranduil of Mirkwood was also attacked from Dol Guldur, but in this, the Battle under the Trees, the Elven folk won a hard victory. After the destruction of Dol Guldur, Celeborn met Thranduil on 6 April, and as the shadow had passed, they divided Mirkwood and renamed it Eryn Lasgalen.

Yes, but not in the films... Everyone knows that they were attacked in the books.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Galadriel "throw down the walls of Dol Guldur" in the second Hobbit film, as there is no sign of Sauron's northern fortress in PJ's adaptation. The dispatch of Haldir's Elves to Hel'ms Deep also indicates that Lorien was not under any direct threat.

Merged Gondor and Rohan makes a lot more sense to me than Isengard and Mordor... Firstly, Isengard and Mordor never even fought together in a battle (with the exception of some of the orcs who met with Ugluk's troop, who weren't noted to be from Mordor in the films), and in the books they were, in a sense, on separate sides. That is, Saruman thought he was on his own side, though he was really doing the work of Mordor all along.

However, for the sake of showing off what's in the films, and creating more balanced, unique and fun factions, a split might be good. As long as it's done carefully.
Greetings, community.

After playing the next release you guys will probably come to the same conclusion most of us have. That the men of the west faction is just too cluttered and changing backwards and forwards to build rohan or gondor structures can be time consuming.

so ttandchotmail, your saying we should split rohan and gondor because its longer to build for both in motw?im saying rohan should be its own faction like men of the east.

Oh, for this poll I voted for gondor and rohan to be split for the simple reason that we have 4 evil factions but only 3 good factions, that and I really liked the rohan faction from bfme1 :p

But after doing a bit of beta testing it's clear ( to me anyway ) that the men faction needs to be split. It's almost like having to build 2 cities instead of just the one. But I'm sure everyone will have their own thoughts on this after the next release. So it'll be interesting to see what people say :p

I think men of the east was the name we were going to give the evil men faction but not 100% sure on that one.

oh and most people just call me tt or TT it's easier :)

If Motw will separate from each other, new spells are going to be needed for the Rohan faction. What about Last March of the Ents for a 25 points power? But,if Ents go to Rohan as siege unit and as a Summon, the Elves are going to need a new one.In my opinion the Ents weren't at Rohan side during the War Of The Ring. What do you think about the Spellbook and the Ents?

Fits Rohan more than Elves... They didn't really work with the Elves at all in the films or books, at the time of the War of the Ring. Though, they really were on their own side and didn't work with Rohan much either, it's still closer. Plus they were for Rohan in BFME1, and lots of people will like them to be in because of that.

At least as a summon, likely as a normal unit, too. But the Elves could get a different siege weapon.

yea i say the same thing TT.lol, but for the ents i like it as a summon for rohan cause they kinda help out like in the movies by destroying isengard and kill the uruks at helms deep.the elves are actually fitting for ents as a unit since thy brought that water for them to be real trees.
