Also, why the hell does my desired course have only an average intake of 8 students, and a 9.5% success rate? Grr!
What course?

It'll be my first UCAS choice, followed by just History at Oxford. After that probably English and History at Sheffield.

Oh, a word of advice: Oxford and Cambridge will look at your grades and if they're straight A's they'll give you an interview, which will basically be the entire basis of their response to your application. Ace the interview and they'll bend over backwards for you. Everywhere else (for example, Sheffield) will want a badass personal statement. Mine got me accepted everywhere I applied with lower required grades than the standard. No exceptions.

*whacks out Oxford prospectus*Would the Sheffield option be a better second choice? Presumably both Oxford courses want the same grades?
The thing is History with English only has 8 places, whereas History by itself has 237. I'd prefer History with English but I'm not sure, with so few places, that I stand a chance.

Well if you get a conditional offer, you're in provided you get the grades. Btw, the order you apply for things on UCAS is irrelevant, preferences are only set when you choose your firm and backup choices (unless things have changed since 4 years ago).*whacks out Oxford prospectus*Would the Sheffield option be a better second choice? Und da war dann noch der achte.
Sieben waren wild und der achte war zahm
Und der achte war's, der sie bewachte.
