Have fatal errors as soon as entering game on certain custom and MO skirmish maps; faction, positioning and other settings seem to have no effect

This particular game was on a custom map, with a European Alliance and Russia vs 2 Psicorps, the map has worked fine on vanilla and earlier versions of MO

Base MO 3.0

Happened during the stream today, against Seraphinexx. I was the Euros, and I was just chasing down a Kirov with 'em when the crash happened.

EDIT: I notice that there are .sav files in my directory for each of the missions I tried. I thought Ares had save/load disabled?

It has save-load disabled during ingame. The saving-at-mission-start code isn't skipped tho, but even those saves are broken.

Happy holidays,

I've had the chance to try MO3 at the weekend using a Windows 7 PC and I can confirm that the same directory (literally the exact same folder) works perfectly fine, with no issues restarting missions. It seems to be a Windows 8 specific issue, though I can't for the life of me begin to explain why.

I've tried all sorts of compatability settings and colour reduction modes, but it just doesn't seem to want to work. I won't have access to that PC for another few weeks, but I thought it'd be worth reporting in just to share my findings.

Wait... I can't understand you. The crash itself reminded me to a common crash when the game is recorded with Fraps, but I always forget how that looks like exactly.

Blitter.

May I ask you what that means? I tried to search for it on this forum and it's only mentioned in this very thread with no explanation whatsoever.

Is it fixable? Does that come from Ares? Should I do something now that I know it's "Blitter"?

The game uses a method known as blitting to draw upon the screen, instead of rendering and texturing like 3D games do. For some reason we couldn't determinate yet, it appears that around late Ares 0.2-early Ares 0.3 Ares introduced an error which made the game prone to random buffer corruption (which we call blittercrash or nowadays just simply blitter) during this blitting procedure. The main issue with these is that such blittercrashes are only caught by the syringe.log and undebuggable, but there should be a change in 0.5 which will hopefully allow them to be dumped and properly debugged.

Ofcourse, since MO still uses 0.4, and blittercrashes are relatively rare and 99% of Ares stability report issues came from MO, so far no blittercrash reports arrived with 0.5. It's really random tho, so just retry. Blittercrashes are annoying in our side too, because they are common enough much to be noted but uncommon to be found out with conventional tests to check which change, which revision introduced them.

I seem to crash only when I try recording with Fraps / streaming is Open Broadcast Software (OBS). Although it seems to happen more when big stuff happens. Like if an enemy surrenders and all their structures are sold at once, the game with lock up for a second and then crash to desktop. I don't have any files I can post about it right this second, but I will if it happens in the future. Other than that, the game seems really stable and am loving it.

Hello.

My problem is that whenever a Kirov airship is shot down in skirmish mode (by either the AI or me), the game crashes to the desktop. It doesn't seem to matter what factions are involved, and this happens virtually every time. Kirovs work fine in campaign missions, though. It'd be a shame to not be able to use a classic air unit like that... If it is a 'blitting' issue, is it fixable? Thanks.

Really awesome mod, by the way.

That's not the casual issue we call 'blitter' and move on, that's certain. This happens during a translucency SHP drawing. On the other hand, I have no idea why does these happen.

Known issue: gaming session on Windows 8 involving coop. Game after coop crashes on / before loading screen

http://www.2shared.c...op_win8_Do.html

Seems as the issue is the same with SP, this one was by force losing and when the game asks if I wanted to replay, I clicked yes. Laoding screen happened, but about 5% - 10% in, the game crashed.

http://www.2shared.c..._spmission.html

Same happens, when I say NO on the question if I want to replay the mission, when I lose it

http://www.2shared.c..._option_NO.html

And as expected: going from SP, force losing the mission (then saying NO), into MP, also crashes my game in the same way. other player ends up stuck in the loading screen.

http://www.2shared.c..._into_MP_w.html

Also, coop: Abort - quit, rehost results in a crash for both of us

my files

http://www.2shared.c...LzDh6ka6XXyMH71

Bengast's files

http://www.mediafire...and syringe.zip

The error I get is: The main executable for Mental Omega has stopped working

What is strange, is that in SP, abort - quit and abort - restart don't get this error

Single player, Skrimage, Meteor shower. Map: Pay of Pigs. Faction: PsiCorps, other factions where random.

EDIT: On the event the game continues, it seems that I cannot start a second game without needing to restart Mental Omega entirely. If I finish a game, and try to start a new one, as soon as I go to the loading screen, the game also crashes. However, no specific debug snapshot was created when this happened, are the snapshots based on start up, so only one snapshot is created per load? If I someone could inform me on how the debugging system works, I could try to find optimal ways and attempt to gather as much information as I can before I post the logs.
