In the Rhovanion Alliance Mod, Boromir is classified into a distinctive group of heroes (other prominent ones include Aragorn and Haldir). The players have the option to "upgrade" these heroes depending on their needs or tastes (i.e. you can choose if you want your selected hero to still remain a scout hero or upgrade him into a tank hero) as the hero gains enough levels.
In the case of Boromir, at earlier levels, he is a close-combat hero who's capable of holding his own against a considerable amount of enemies but is also lightly armoured enough to move quickly if need be (especially after gaining his "mount" ability). At later levels, Boromir gains an upgrade (in the form of a "clickable" icon, so it's not passive) that would increase his armour defence by a large amount and enable other abilities that correspond with said armour upgrade, effectively making Boromir a very tough front-lines commander. However, by upgrading Boromir, he loses his "mount" ability in addition to a sizeable decrease in speed. After upgrading, the "mount" ability and the armour upgrade icon are then replaced by 2 other new abilities.
All in all, "upgrading" your heroes may bring about both advantages and disadvantages, so players will have to choose wisely.
