He isn't needed but he's kinda... Well, for lore's sake, he is. At least in campaign.

I think we should see how the Minas Tirith mission in the campaign is handled before that's decided.

@mike: rofl, i hadnt noticed that before. im sure half of the people who read this will be so lost ;)

i suppose he could be a campaign/inn hero but i cant imagine what would be done with him in the minas tirith battle or any other battle for that matter...

Speaking of which, I have some questions. Will it be the E.A. map? If not, how many levels will be playable? Will there be 1 causeway up to the 2nd level? Will there be gates for all the playable levels (as there should be)? Will there be at least 100,000 Orcs and several thousand Haradrim and Rhunic soldiers?

Also, he should be at the Black Gate mission for certain.

At this moment, it's the EA map. However, I'm hoping we'll be using Njm's.

AAAAGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT E.A.'S MAP, PLEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASEEEE!!! Njm's map RULES!!!!
Note-sorry for all caps, but that's literally my feelings about E.A.'s map. It's not even true to the movies, which it was obviously trying to replicate.

Han shot first! >.<

Nope...njm's map causes too much lag for some people for the campaign, which we want everyone to be able to play. Last I heard, rob was checking out a 7 level map somewhere...

All I think we need is 3-4 levels. All of which have gates. Oh, and Yoda... it's called low detail.

It's called lag.

Seriously...the map is at least 600x600, and with all the giant giant props and armies and geometry coding...

it doesnt matter how low you put the detail cil, because for those of us with bad/old computers (myself included) the mod lags as it is. i can run the vanilla game on medium but with the mod anything above very low is too laggy. we cant afford to be true to the lore in this case because it would just lag too much to have that many units on the battlefield at once.

Well, you could do 2 different missions, Pelennor and Minas Tirith. There should be at least 2 levels. Both should have gates. Nothing will really be able to take the second level unless there is an unholy number of trolls and battering rams and pults (at least 50 rams, same amount of trolls, hundreds of pults). Pelennor and Rammas Echor on their own were enormous. Therefore, they could be made into their own missions or something.

That idea was proposed in the past...having a four-mission 'Gondor in Flames' story arc, going as follows:
-Osgiliath
-Rammas Echor
-Minas Tirith
-Pelennor Fields

However, several people had negative reactions towards this plan and it has not been discussed since.

But if it's to be brought up again..it's what I'd do :p

I agree with Mike a 4 arc story would be awsome, we could be able to directly add in more story and quaility into the siege of gondor, i would really recommend doing this!!!!

Rob has already verified the whole MT mission set-up in this thread. I'm going to be forceful here and say that we should move onto something new rather than regurgitating (sp?) old conversation.

It's a shame that we might not be using Njm's MT map. He did an unbelieveably beautiful job on it. I hope that we will atleast be using his Osgiliath map because Osgiliath has always bothered me since BFME 1.

I`d be all for a 7-level MT map so long as the AI is very aggressive. Meaning that they wouldn`t just stop at the second level (or something like that) or the waves would give you enough time to push them out of the city. The AI is my biggest concern with a 7-level city. But of course, I would definitely be fine with a 3-4 level city. Just the AI..

Agreed...I'd really like to see Njm's map used.

As for the point about Cair Andros, I hadn't thought of that when I typed that up above. Perhaps it could be a sort of 'cool-down' mission to be used after the Siege?

I'd almost want to see Cair Andros played twice. Once to defend it and another as a "cool-down"/retake mission that you described. I think that Rob already has a plan for it though. I think that there is a limited amount of missions/maps that Gondor can do defending its region (like the Ithilien Maps, etc.) so a Cair Andros mission might be needed so that you get a chance to build up a force before you have to defend Minas Tirith.

I don't know. I just kind of see Cair Andros being needed as a chance to build up a force (or heal/replace your force) before the big battle. But at the same time, I can see why it would make a great "Cool-Down" mission.

That could work, actually. Having an earlier Mission featuring the Good player building up his forces for use at Minas Tirith, and a later Mission of Gondor's retaking of it.

Which could work quite well, considering there aren't many battles where the 'good guys' perform a siege :p

just been reading over this and I have made a minas tirith map, it isn't the best ever, the scripting isn't great, but I think that it gets the feel of the amount of enemies should be at Minas tirith, have a look and tell me what you think.

Minas Tirith tower of the setting sun
Egalmoth wore a blue mantle upon which the stars were broidered in crystal.
The leader of the House of the Heavenly Arch.
Alone of all the Noldor, he used a curved sword.

The people of the Heavenly Arch was arrayed in many colours and their arms were set with with jewels and their shields was blue as the sky.Egalmoth got out of the burning Gondolin and came to the Mouth of Sirion
