I had this idea. For Gondor give them a drummer unit, but instead of providing leadership it increases speed. This is what a real drummer does because it keeps the whole unit in step and moving at the pace of the drum. Put him in the back like a reverse banner carrier. This would make the battalions seem really realistic.

yeah only it isn't anywhere featured in the films or books, so it wouldn't be very tolkienish. And I don't think they allready invented that in the Third Age. The drums of battle started in the sixteenhundreds (not sure about that) in this world, and I doubt they would invent that so fast in Middle earth.

...The Journey doesn't end here; death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it. White shores...and beyond. A far green country, under a swift sunrise...

...Many folk like to know beforehand what is to be set on the table; but those who have laboured to prepare the feast like to keep their secret; for wonder makes the words of praise louder...

But it developed a different way. Their medieveal time is NOT equivilent to our own time. There's no ignorance or religion, and a higher quality of life.

The orcs have drums. They are far less advanced. It wouldn't have to be a modern type drum guy.

Good point a drummer could be cool but I think a flag bearer or even some kind of horn would be more realistic.

oh oh, you mean like, like... a banner carrier? :p

I like that :D.. Anyway, what I meant was that Tolkien never mentioned it, it is nowhere to be seen in the movies, and I personally think it would look quite weird..
but since gondor's finished anyway, this whole discussion is kinda useless offcourse. :p

one thing I always wanted to see (and it was discussed in the earliest days of BFME...) was rubble falling from buildings damaging units it falls on... I know that'd be insanely hard to code but I think It'd be worth it if you could deal damage to guys by hitting buildings between you... I'm not sure that that would work... and one other thing... I'm hoping you'll make fleeing units flee and become temporarily uncontrollable (like Total War... tho for only a few seconds) as opposed to the present day method of them running two steps then getting a command to start shooting again and instantly ceasing to be afraid... and lastly I think Fellbeasts should be able to pick up heroes as well... and guys that the Nazgul drop should do damage to ppl they land on...

I don't expect much if any of this to be implemented :thumbsdownsmiley: I'm just brainstorming...

yeah most of those things would be cool, especially the units falling from the sky doing damage, but the picking up of heroes would be a little unbalanced I think.. I mean.. naz would be instantly killing heroes...

the could survive the fall... I mean you can trample/knock around heavy units without killing them... it'd be just like being knocked back by a troll except they would be falling instead of flying horizontally they'd be falling vertically...

Another problem in BFME is that you can skewer cavalry with pikemen regardless of the direction from which they come ... many a time when I was learning I flanked their pikemen and lost my cavalry before I realized that it doesn't matter which way the pikes are facing! This makes pikemen literally invincible versus all cavalry

not really invincible yet.. have you ever tried stopping your cavalry, and engage the pikes without trampling?.. the cav still loses, but the pikes will get damage too... And even if pikes are unbeatable with cavalry, they are still to slow to chase them, so you can still harass farm or even worse: use cav archers to hit and run.

edit: oh and being knocked back by a troll is a far smaller distance than be trown on the ground by a nazgul: watch the RotK to see how far you can fall when dropped by a naz, and watch the FotR to see why being hit by a troll doesnt kills you.

again... just brain storming... but I'm saying that its a similar concept... longer distance... but still a similar idea... I know that Cav Archers are good vs pikes... I'm not asking for a tactical solution... I want to know if they can fix that bug cuz it really bothers me when my horseys run through their pikemen (who don't even move by the way) but still get damage... I mean its not like the pikemen are immune to being squished by my riders and the definitely don't have any kind magic damage u as u walk past them

Flanking isn't possible in BfME1 I'm afraid.
