shame.. it would be usefull, though if it would be like in bfme II, I'd rather do without. But maybe you could indeed change the fact that pikes instant kill cavalry when trampling, cause it's quite annoying sometimes... I once won a game because my enemy ran trough my towerguards with his 7 troops of knights to get to my soldier - archer combos. It ended up with me having lvl 10 towerguards and a lot of powerpoints, and all the knights dead. I know it's still quite stupid to do so, but If you're trampled by 35 knights, you're seriously badly hurt, no matter if you got your spears in front of you. long story comes down to this: pikes autokilling cavalry is a little unrealistic.

edit: 150 posts in more than a year.. It seems to me I'm not really active around these forums..

Really, if you want a realistic game go play TW. Standard fare RTS games have got along without flanking for quite a while... This simply forces you to use your counter-unit. I'm sure that it would be thematic to have an all Rohirrim army, but then there has to be some way to stop it. With the way BFME works otherwise, I think that if cavalry could flank pikes they'd be the ultimate force in the universe, to say nothing about all the other factions who do not have pikes.

Long story short - even if we could, I would argue against it unless the whole game was rebalanced.

Aren't there mods available for TW to make it look like your playing lotr?

But does this means that pikes will still be auto-killing cavalry, or wil it be nerfed a bit?

To my knowledge, pikes have never autokilled cavalry. The game has always been surprisingly lenient to idiotic decisions like charging them. I also seem to recall that in stock, upgraded rohirrim have a good chance of killing unupgraded pikemen, so it is doable.

The reason I don't want to nerf pikes is that there is only one pike unit in the whole game. The rest are all spear type units and don't do nearly as much damage. Having Isengard be the anticavalry faction is lore-compliant and just means that you'll have to use the many counter units that are available to eliminate the pike menace. That or go around, in porcupine formations pikes were pretty slow.

I remember I had an all mounted army when I played campaign... I just had half horse archers and half rohirrim... if I encountered pikes I'd just fill them full of arrows while keeping out of range.

Yeah that's what I meant, but this means that gondor spearman won't be as powerfull against cav as the towerguards where in the original right?

Well no. There's a difference between a spear and a pike. In real life a horse wouldn't charge a line of any pointy things without serious encouragement. A spear is not a specific anti-cav weapon.. but it's longer reach is of course going to give it an advantage over a sword. But no, no insta death upon charging. Just more resistant to charge, and better vs cavalry in a melee than swordsmen.

Maybe, the Nazgul can get a bonus when you use the Darknes power because they are at their strongest in the dark. Anyone with me? I think it would be very cool and special(To the mod).

Well you do have a fine point. They also succumbed to bright light just as well. They could gain tactical bonuses in darkness, but cower in fear in bright light. Would that balance them out?

it'd certainly make having a darkness attack more vital... at present darkness is a tiny nuisance... not nearly as practical as call the horde or the eye of Sauron...I think that if ur Nazgul were more reliant on it it would be way more useful... I have another suggestion... what about trolls? even they might not be cave trolls which turn to stone in sunlight darkness would probably speed them up.. in fact I think +15% attack speed and +15% movement speed to all trolls/orcs/wraiths would be awesome! it would mean that having Darkness when you storm their castle would be A LOT more important than it is now... you'd be able to reach/capture walls faster and you'd also be able to swarm thru ppl slightly faster...

The problem with that is that darkness is instantly removed when other weather powers are activated. So that would result in darkness never happening, because if keeping it light not only removed bonuses but also made Mordor weaker, there would be no reason not to use cloudbreak as soon as Darkness was cast. Essentially both powers would be negated, with the advantage going to the non-Mordor player all the time.

thats what I do already :wink_new:... I save cloudbreak for whenever the weather turns sour, vice versa... I use weather to cancel... why not lower the darkness timer to say half or a third of the cloud break timer? I mean if it was that important... but then again... I dunno... I would look at it as rather than weakening Mordor, it makes them better than they already are... Also... for ppl who don't wanna gamble with the darkness orc storm 'n swarm strategy they could always focus on Evil men who would be immune to darkness and cloud break? just a wild idea... but it could at an element of strategy if you made darkness a big deal...

Well, there could be lords of the Fiefdoms like Forlong the Fat(or maybe it could be like a captain, but they already have a captain so I understand if you don't like the idea.)

About the whole darkness thing: I always found it extremely annoying that cloud break had a longer recharge time than darkness, even though the latter was stronger. And will you be fixing the weather effects? In the vanilla edition, darkness wouldn't ever really go away, only the effect would disappear, resulting in an entire game under brown clouds.

Maybe... A new campaign... perhaps? The current one is boring... and I beat it too many times... I love the work and am glad to see that some people in this world are as detail-oriented as I am. I could wait another 2-3 years for this mod without the slightest bit of the extreme feeling of wanting something. Buuuut.. A new campaign would be nice.

It's not often that I quote myself!

Q:Will there be a new extended campaign in the initial release? If not, are there plans for one in the future?
A: We don't plan for an extended campaign initially, but one may be released later.
