I really don't think his shield could be used for an effective weapon. First off, I doubt any man could summon enough force to swing a shield that covers nearly the entire arm. The most it could probably do would not an uruk unconscious or just give him a really bad headache :wink_new: I would think its purpose would be more for armor and balancing out his swinging sword, if that makes sense.

Depends where he wears it/what type of shield it is; look at the spartans.

Don't think it fits boromir though, he already has knockback...

He did it in the films - knocked a few Gobbos across the room in the Chamber of Mazarbul.

You forget that he is a Numenorean. That means much more strength than you'd expect.

I just think it makes sense to have something more appropriate, fitting and useful. Boromir isn't based around his shield. And he already has knockback.
Boromir was supposed to be the most brave, charismatic and inspirational man of the age. One of the very greatest heroes. A cheap, weak infantry hero who hits people with his shield doesn't really do him justice. He has the noble blood of Gondor and Dol Amroth (Denethor married the princess of Dol Amroth, remember?). Surely he should have the strength and powers to reflect this? Well, here's what I propose. You might like some aspects and dislike others.

Boromir
Description: Recruit the son of Denethor and greatest ever Captain of Gondor.
Buildcost: 2750
Does strong damage + knockback. Ordinary attack speed.
Powers:

Lvl.2 - Horn of Gondor
Lvl.4 - Leadership (all nearby units gain +50% armor & damage and recieve experience 200% faster)
Lvl.7 - Captain of Gondor (gives experience and temporary boosts armor and damage)
Lvl.8 - Inspiration (all nearby infantry temporarily become resistant to fear and recieve experience a further 250% faster; same FX as glorious charge)
Lvl.10 - Bane of Darkness (Boromir gains double armor, damage and speed for a limited amount of time while doing extended damage to monsters)

If you remove the Stance button, unlocking Heroes of Gondor will allow Boromir to mount a horse. This means that Boromir having a horse will not muck up the campaign, while the way that his powers apply primarily to infantry means that he will stay primarily an infantry hero. The horse is just useful for letting him access the map faster.
At Level 5, Boromir will recieve a passive boost to armor and damage when his health is red.

What do you all think? Like it?

Unneeded, imo. Give his leadership a little boost, lower horde to level three, and he's a fine hero already.

He is prized for his health, knockback and early leadership, but not anything else. Your version seems a bit more powerful than the balanced and more canonical version. Also, he wasn't necessarily the greatest captain of Gondor EVER, just one of the greatest. For one, he is never called that, and for 2, different captains have different uses. Would you give a modern military jet squad commander a bullet-proof vest and a SMG and expect them to good there, or a ground commander a jet and expect him to perform well there? No. And if yes, you're just mad.

That's... unconnected to what I was saying. My suggested version of Boromir keeps him as an infantry-based, leader hero - just much stronger, more useful and more detailed. And in my opinion, a lot more fitting to his character. I'd rather have him as a powerful medium game-hero than a cheap early-game hero. It's not up to me, in the end.

I prefer he stay as a early hero. The only problem I have with Boromir is trolls being able to knock him down without him getting a chance to attack.

regardless of whether or not you interpret boromir as being a very powerful hero, he is currently filling the role of an early-mid game infantry hero and your changes would vacate that role for gondor. he serves a specific purpose atm, and he does that quite well. he could stand a small tweak here and there, but he cannot have a full overhauling and large price boost; it takes too much away from gondor's early-game imo.

I meant the trolls knocking Boromir down like when throwing a rock or being hit by an attack troll.

... Well, what I've like is for Boromir to have an overhaul, and for his place as a weak early game hero to be filled by a new hero - Berethor. I was playing T3A yesterday, and while the plotline and dialogue was almost bad enough to make me cry, I was awed by that hero's looks and moves and I thought - we must have him.
Otherwise, I'd change Damrod's name to Madril and make Damrod a new early game hero with basic swordsman moves. Not all the rangers were archers, anyway.
But this is just wild rambling, really. It doesn't matter too much. It would just be... nice.

Berethor is already a CaH. If you want him for a hero just use him, even if he doesn't resemble himself from T3A ;)

Boy, looks like Tolkien enjoyed giving names to men that start with "b" then a vowel then "r" then the same vowel ;)
