Ehm, no, he wasn't a captain. Remember the part where pippin asks if he's the Captain of a company and if he (pippin) could join? Beregond laughs and says no, he's just a simple soldier assigned to showing pippin around.

He was the captain of the White Company, Faramir's guard in Ithilllien, but that was during the fourth age. That must have been where I got confused, by thinking he was a captain. But look, I haven't rehearsed my knowledge of the books for some time, now, and the films leave plenty of gaps empty.

But even so, there are other gameplay heores who play a rather small role in the War, like Arwen.
I will remember Rhovanion Alliance, RIP .

Ooh, while we're at it, can we get rid of Legolas too? I mean, he was the least influential of the members of the Fellowship...

Alright, alright, I'm just trying to piss off the fanboys, you got me...

Arwen did nothing at all in the books. She also serves no gameplay role.

Absolutely nothing, there isn't anything we hate about her. We're just a bit engaged in the dabate as to wheather certain in-game and preconceptualized heroes can remain in game due to a seemingly low impact in the actual War of the Ring.

I think she should be a solely buff hero.

She actually did something, like giving Aragorn her immortality? She is only one of the very few elves that did that, for her own love....
Physically? Bleh, she did something in the movie, but not in the books. She could be one of those scout like heroes? Fast on her horse, but weak like she is right now.
Lv 10 Arwen? flood? Domination too. (Even though, in the movie, the flood was by Elrond)

She gave it up for him, in other words.

I still think that despite Beregond's relatively limited importance that he should be merited a Hero, just as Hama is. He could be an early game hero, who provides an ofensive bonus for Pippin, a defensive bonus for Faramir, an ofensive and defensive bonus for himself when fighting with Pippin and Faramir respectively, because he was motivated by his admiration for Faramir and his fondness for Pippin.

In fact, the reason he was not executed for spilling blood on the Silent Street was because he fought bravely in the Battle of the Morannon and because his actions were driven by his love for Faramir. He may not have been a captain or a leader, but he could face Mordor's onset to protect those in his care, his friends, his family, his people, his home.

Check the beggining of the chapter 'The Black Gate Opens', he's be mentioned leading a company of the Men of Minas Tirith, and 168-9, it describes the Troll attack on the Host of the West, and Pippin's valiant attack on the Troll. He was on the front rank of the host when the attack commenced.

he was, but is that an importance at all? Several thousand others were there too, more than a handful of them better than him himself.
No, like many said, he was basically a cool and awesome "common" soldier.
