Btw, does anyone know if there is something similar to that but Helm's Deep? Yes I know about the Last Hope mod that started in the Stone Age and still hasn't been completed (no offence, but it's v. old), but apart from that, is there a revamped map for HD? If there isn't, don't worry I'm not too bothered...but I guess it just crossed my head.

Well, don't really know what to say to that other than one word... patience.

^No offence intended btw. Sorry for the little outburst..

OK back on topic- I'm just tryna understand some of the upcoming changes; can any subfaction be chosen as the main one, as in the case of Lothlórien which has its own Fortress?

Btw, I simply can not wait for the new Lórien fortress. Rob, you have again left us speechless! So thank you and thank you very much!

as soon as all of the buildings and whatnot are finished for the other 2 subfactions (lorien is the only one finished at the moment) they will be selectable as the starting subfaction. each subfaction will have the ability to call for aid from one or both of the others, while still keeping their original buildings and will then gain access to their units/heroes.
hope that helped

and not to make everyone jealous but the elven stuff is amazing! lol

Has the Mirkwood building work been started on? I guess it would be inspired from The Hobbit. You guys are totally rubbing it in btw lol.

So I guess it's back over to IE for you then Yoda, huh? Lol kidding.

Some ideas for the Mirkwood fortress...it's said in "The Hobbit" that it was both mostly underground, heavily forested, and only accessable by crossing a swift, deep river.
So...maybe those can be some possible fortress upgradres - moat and camoflauge.
Also, some design tips from it...it's said that the forces of Mirkwood (when fully armed as in the Battle of Five Armies) primarily consisted of spearmen and archers, and that they typically wore blue cloth. IIRC, "The Hobbit" video game featured them in silver-ish armour.
And yoda...BAM.
Cheers,
-mike

Right now they have dark greenish armor and suck to blend in with forest, and they have nice spears and archers :good: It would be pretty sweet to have all mirkwood buildings camoflauged and spawn with some trees around them that kinda look like the building, so its blended in. Fortress will be the toughest part...but I'm sure rob has thought about moat. And the magic doors

Oh, and cheer up :p I'll probably post some of the screens mentioned above soon, as soon as photobucket finishes with em :p

Hmmmmm, I'm gonna stay on this topic to look at your screens.

For the Fortress, I think a moat and camouflage could do fine for some upgrades, The camouflage could maybe provide invisibility to the buildings and units near it, about the size of the castle walls for RJ maps, the buildings will be revealed when units get to close, any seeing spell (Eye of Sauron) is on it, and if the fortress is destroyed.

Hmm, interesting thoughts. Camouflage would obviously need a lot of mulling over. Is there any reference on swordsman or the like. I have The Hobbit in front of me, but it'd take a while to find the correct page. But then again, Mirkwood is primarily an archer subfaction so the units would be in that dept. as well as the buffs.

@ Funbomb, tbh, if the Eye of Sauron revealed the buildings, there'd be no point of invisibility. It'd only take seconds to figure out where on the map it would be.

Only some units :p Otherwise there would be no point. And they'll be over in 1.06 screens when I'm finished uploading.

Edit: Fyro beat me. Just skip to the part when Bilbo follows the hosts out, or when the elves go marching to laketown :good:. Spears and archers are both definatly in.

kk, I have the Hobbit in front of me too!!!!

I'm looking for page too!-Nvm

I guess you have a point about Eye of Sauron.
Hmmmmm, thinking about the fortress, what will you do with the walls, keep the same walls or design a new one for each sub-faction and that goes the same for regular walls in no RJ maps.

If camoflauge provided invisibility, there'd be no point to getting it in an RJ or buildplot map, because you already know where the forretress is. I think it should provide a leadership that buffs armor major league. Of course, that would kind of undermine Mirkwood's reputation as a low-armor, hit-and-run type of faction, so I dunno.

I guess the important thing to note here is that they are a subfaction, and sooner or later, will work in conjunction with another subfc. But yes, the buildings themselves could be of a distinctive trait in line with the particular subfc.

I think camouflage could actually work, only not in 1v1 maps. Cuz if you are Mirkwood, then your enemy need only check in the one spot you are. But in like 2v2 or more, it could work. It would only provide an advantage in the start, and a very small one at that. I mean if the enemy sends scouts, then it's over for you in minutes...so no surprise factor there. So the advantage is tooo minute to be of use imo.

Or you can just make the camouflage spawn a bunch of trees in and around the buildings near it and around it and some more trees around it to blend in. Hmmmmm, just thought of this, the player can look on his mini-map (Bottom-Left) to see the colors and he would find out.

Maybe you can make it and upgrade, it can spawn trees to the buildings, giving it semi-camouflage and giving it armor boost or you can just make it for the fortress and walls.

Could just stealth units around it...and also, you'd don't really need the subfactions when you're playing, though it does help. Each one has pretty much enough units for a whole faction.

For rj maps, walls will probably (almost definatly) be different depending on subfaction, with rivendell probably getting current ones.

i was thinking that it would just stealth all allied units in a large radius, perhaps as large as the farm radius on rj maps. stealthing buildings (except for maybe resource buildings) would not help you much as people can figure out where your base is.
