Masamune's swords didn't do that, however Muramasa's swords were said to exactly that crap. They were said to be evil, and that was one of the reasons that Tokugawa Ieyasu outlawed them after becoming Shogun (and that he was wounded by one earlier in his life, which is probably the main reason). Masamune's swords were said to not cut things unless the owner willed the sword to do just that.
