I'm having a small break from coding and mapping, probably till the end of September so I thought I'd try some YR mapping. And this is a small next step in 3.0 development.

Looks great, though lighting is a bit awful and bright, especially around ore patches.

There are some maps for MO which use that specific tree type as water fauna. If I'm not mistaken, there is at least one official which uses same method.

And yea, I'll fix the lighting.

That was supposed to be included in my PM, sorry.

On PPM, there is some tool that allows you to view the map like Speeder did. Here:
http://www.ppmsite.c...pic.php?t=23236

I haven't used it, but I think that's it.

... since the topic already delve a bit into hero units...

I got a neat idea for an Allied Hero unit today.

Assault Fortress - The bigger, badder brother of the Battle Fortress.
For too long have allied forces suffered incredible losses at the hands of the Soviet Centurion. It's time for them to strike back. True to Allied strategy, the Assault Fortress is geared more toward mobility/versatility than armor. It floats like a hover transport enabling it to traverse land and water. But it can still run head to head with a Centurion thanks to 10 turrent points which can be occupied by any troop combination you please.

Speed: Slightly faster than a Centurion
Armor: 3x that of a Battle Fortress
Weapons: Machine gun found on the Battle Fortress has been replaced with the missile launcher found on the IFV for more versatility.
Range: Same as Battle Fortress
Garrison-able: Can hold 8-10 infantry unit (depending on game balance)
Not a detector unit!

Strengths:
- Can assist in naval strikes thanks to hovering ability
- Can be configured to any role you please thanks to 8-10 turrent points (anti-air, anti-infantry, anti-base, or a little of everything)
- Can sneak into enemy bases on island maps

Weakness:
- Range still far less than a Centurion
- Armor
- Still needs dolphin support to spot underwater threats
- Susceptible to both squid and terror drone attacks

Any thoughts? Critiques? Severe verbal beatings?

I like the Assault Destroyer idea, it seems really balanced and fits with the mod.

Allies, who are dependent upon their technology and lighter units to fight, get a big heavy unit that's got Soviet written all over it. Not to mention you contradict yourself by giving it 3x the BFRT armor yet its the weakness.

In short, bad horrible idea.

maybe they should have an aircraft type unit, that would match in with their 'air superiority' theme

and should maybe have some high tech weapon?
man, how could would it be if they had like a mirage air unit that disguised as a cloud. wouldn't really work in game as there are no clouds, but i always like to see technology utilised multiple times, like the prism tech that had the tower and the tank, etc. Mirage tech was only one one unit...

High tech like the Stormbringer Tank?
Now that's what I was thinking

The current Centurion has like 8x the armor of a BFRT, so by comparison it is indeed weak. Your arguement = void.

My argument isn't void. You're just mad because I know a thing or two about decent ideas and yours isn't one. As mentioned many times before, there will be NO hero units for the Allies or Epsilon.

I also see you completely miss the big argument. Point stands that brute-power heavily-armored units are completely Soviet and NOT Allied.

And we are all going to balance that bastard people. :thumbsupsmiley: ATM Centurion is pretty easy to be dealt with (I mean, in my current build) so I think balancing of this mechanical monster won't be a problem, although it's still a high priority.

Facts:
- Speeder is re-writing the mod.
- This is the official 3.0 suggestion thread.
- Speeder's going to re-balance the Centurion, so I think there is hope he might consider hero units for the other nations.
- Speeder hasn't posted in this thread that he is vehemently against hero units in the next version. I for one hope he considers them.

There's a siple fix, simply give the Soviets a vehicle hero, while the rest has an infantry hero. Yep, Boris will then be campaign only.

I however, don't care wether the Soviets have the Centurion Siege Crawler and Boris or only one of them or none of them. After all, in both RA1 and RA2 only the Allies had a hero, Tanya. Yes, in RA1, in skirmish or multiplayer, the Soviets also had her, but the Allies also had Mammoth Tank's and such then. To balance the game. Although the Soviets were hugely overpowered. :thumbsupsmiley:

I wouldnt call the Centurion a hero then, just a super tank, which surely suits the Soviets.

but the Allies also had Mammoth Tank's

The Allies never had Mammoth Tanks, not even in multiplayer. :thumbsupsmiley: The Soviet's werent all that overpowered either.

To that Darkstorm's S.E.E.D. thingy:
I would like to see something like this in the MO (even though I've planned to have similar "country" in my mod almost from the start = Balteg)
Poland would have same chance as Czechoslovakia (first has sea and no offence, the second area has been little more developed)
I thing Yugoslavia would fit more as the leader
- it was the 2nd largest socialistic country in Europe
- few of these countries have sea
- they were on the same level as the East Germany

If you will introduce SEED with Poland as leader, please give some good reasons for it (like they had economical miracle, weren't hit by the war, etc.).

Well, no. It isn't. Please continue. :p
