It is a bit weird when you think about it, we have a Spoiler topic for a set of movies based on a book we've all read probably multiple times, and there are actual spoilers.

a. Well, everyone haven't read the book, I'm sure.
b. There's more than just The Hobbit content, and I'm guessing even less have read the other stuff.
c. Jackson can't make a book-based movie without making something up.
d. Some of us look foward to seeing how it looks on the screen.

Well, we did know that there was going to be a love relationship between Kili and Tauriel, and that the Dwarves would attack the Dragon. I really like this cliff-hanger, in fact I would prefer if we saw the Dragon burning Laketown from the perspective of the Dwarves. - Also, where is the thrush?

I'm reading it now, and um wow they make some changes.

The changes dont bother me surprisingly. Kind of expected. Im not to keen on repeat scenes though. Replicating Arwen and aragorn from fotr is lame. I do really like Smaug having molten gold dumped onto him, giving him his golden jeweled skin. It never sat well with me that all the stuff just got stuck to him in the book. The cliff hanger end seems quite appropriate.
EDIT: Thorin confronting Smaug and taunting him seems very in character for both film and book versins. I always had the impression Thorin was arrogant in the book, and even more so in the film. Seems very natural that he would concoct some sort of plan and try to deal directly with the dragon, rather than bilbo just finding out a secret and telling a bird.... Some people will not like the Thrush not being involved but I felt like it was awkwardly done in the book and sort of broke the believability of the story.
