"From this seal shall arise the doom of men,"
"who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own."
"Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit."
"Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control."
"Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
"Tremble, mortals, and despair! Doom has come to this world!"

( though they were wery skilled in bow too, especially riding on horse and shooting )
btw . . . maybe we could make use of how they looked, for some barbarian models, or as inn units ( another dunland units, as inn faction, i could make a list of these, like i did ToG (Tribes of Gundabad) for Angmar ).

Anyway, your point that some tribes of North America used "light tomahawks" in warfare is true. However, they were indeed only light weapons used against targets at a distance of at most five yards away. They were also light weapons - they were rarely heavy or lethal enough to kill a man outright.
So, if anything, they should be represented as a rechargeable, relatively weak ranged ability. Not as a unit.

However, in LotR, where people do have armor and shields and stuff, I suppose a soldier could survive a tomahawk if it hit their shield, but if it smacked them directly, it would at least leave a nasty gash that would probably be enough to severely wound the guy or utterly mess up his armor where he got hit.
If you want to be realistic, however (which is nonsense when we're talking about a game/universe with trolls and dragons), I suppose we could replace ax throwers with a raider unit armed with torches/axes that could have an ax-throw ability (which would be enough to damage the enemy pretty good but needs to be close). They'd have to normally suck in melee combat vs normal units and be anti-building/anti-siege weapon specialists or else their role would conflict with that of Gundabad Orcs.

The same way 'throwing knives' are? If you was trained, I don't think it would've been difficult at all...I'm just saying, it would be hard to accuractly throw a spinning axe so that the sharp end would be the one to hit, and rather hard to hit the face of a target

Also, the most that were ever carried at a time were at most three, not a quiver full.
I support the idea of a "raiders" unit.

as fyro says : training
and of course the physical rules of flying objects
yeh but what elfh. says is true, would be stupid ( unreal ) to bear a full quiver of axes all the time ( though its not hard to take them after battle - lotr explanation )
i dont like the raider idea, or better to say it sounds too much like Dunlandings . .. . - why not make them throw TORCHES ?!
it would be same like with siege, they would throw them indirectly, more like targeted ground ( could ignite )

And yes, I'll stick to my raider idea since i'd rather have that than a unit that works exactly like corsairs but with no knife toggle.
