Currently we are having some model problems witth all the LUA goblins, so this might delay things a bit since Lauri is away at the moment :S

If they don't have it already, they should get a damage and speed buff for grouping around five Goblin hordes together (like Orcs).
Goblin Drummers should be a vital part of any Goblin army.
In the book FotR, it was a large Orc Captain which speared Frodo (not a Troll like in the films) before being beheaded by Aragorn. These guys would be like minor heroes for Moria and give Leadership buffs to the Gobbos and possibly have some sort of Carnage-like ability. If possible, I'd also like to see some sort of short-term demoralizing effect on the Goblin hordes result from killing these guys (Armor Debuff, Fear, etc.) or maybe a Rage effect (+33% damage, -66% Armor). The Moria Orc Captains could either be trainable from a Goblin Cave or be named heroes since Moria could afford a few more of those. The CaH Uruk is probably closest to what Moria Orc Captains should look like.
Goblin Shamans were originally considered for the films, so they aren't totally out of line with the overall spirit of SEE. They could grant fear resistance and possibly have a rechargeable power to sacrifice an individual Goblin and result in a Battle Frenzy (+attack speed and damage) and/or a power that gives Goblin Warriors Fire Damage for a period of time.
I'm not too keen on giving Moria elite archers...maybe boost the veterancy benefits of Goblin Archers a bit more if absolutely needed, lower the recharge time of Poison Arrows, or make Poison the default Archer Upgrade and switch Fire Arrows to an ability with a short recharge time.
Wolf Riders could be an early game Moria Cavalry unit. Initially, they would have little or no trample ability but would still make for good raiding and flanking melee troops. Rather than Heavy Armor or Forged Blades, the upgrade for these guys could be some sort of Fell Wolves upgrade purchased from the Wolf Den that gives them trample comparable to Warg Riders.
Finally I'd look at increasing the Stealth factor of the Moria faction in general. Maybe have Goblin Archers and Warriors possess a Stealth near trees ability when built or create a Goblin Tracker class with Stealth characteristics (improved archery over standard Goblin Archers, a Knife toggle, but with no armor). This is based on the idea that the goblins of Moria needed to hunt for food outside their caves. Since I'm tech tree inclined, I like the idea of having Goblin Warriors and Archers build as unarmored stealthy units with good vision and allowing them to either level up as such or better acquire armor at the expense of stealth and vision.
Anyway, some random ideas to chew on...

anyways, wolf riders are already in the plans, and SR's are bein scrapped and will only appear as lair units. Your goblin tracker is actually very similiar to the goblin elite idea i had a while ago. I thought it could be a bow-toggling elite stealthy unit that could swith between dual knives and a bow. Of course...i had mine rigging bombs..but yeah. that was a completely different goblin faction..heh.
I think a short-ranged melee unit would be cool for the gobs...my knife-throwers i had mentioned long ago. They could replace spiderlings as being fast attack units with high damage, but little armor. Until you made a knife, u could just sue the axethrower axe as the projectile. heck, EA did that in RotWK.

Goblin cave troll using a chain(grond model minimized) instead of throwing rocks like Morder trolls.(use balrog animation)
you'd have to do new weapon anims....but a new cave troll is in the works.
I would take out the goblin drummer because it's not in any movie for one, and morder used to own that idea, or at least take out roar on account of a goblin drummer not being very scary.
err...Drums in the deep? Goblins were headbangers, man.

Maybe the goblins should have stronger troop types because Goblins(Pikemen, Warriors, Archers) are kind of weak maybe add Gundabad orcs or Mountain orcs as mid game units and Goblins(Pikemen, Warriors, Archers) as early game units
Moria is all about spamming! Their strenght lies in numbers. Having a lot of elite units would swing the faction in the wrong direction. They have the Moria Guard now though (the former "half trolls scaled down).
Cave Troll of Moria with chain, is in the works, but it won't be finished until Beta V

In The Hobbit, a form of vampire bats flew above
the battlefield to block the Sun for the goblins and
even attacked enemy soldiers. You could use the bat
models from the Summon Cave Bats power and have
them be able to swoop down on enemies to attack.
Also if goblin infantry are under the bats, they get an
attack and armor boost.

I thought of a new creature for the goblins: bats!

Yes, well, S.E.E. is supposed to be as close to the movies as possible, so the Project team probably won't put anything into the mod from The Hobbit, with it being a book, and all...

you have to go out of your boundries a
little. (Like this boundry is of just being a
movie mod.)
And I've seen some things from the Hobbit
in the mod, such as Smaug.

According to your logic, S.E.E. doesn't have a dwarven and elven faction, because none of those units were in the movie.I thought of a new creature for the goblins: bats!

This mod is BASED (inspired) by the movies, yes... but like I've said several times before, we do add stuff from the books, if needed and if we find a good place for it =)

The bats are a really good idea, they would fit better as a flying unit for the Goblins, once Smaug was stated as the last great dragon by Tolkien. I never liked too much Dogroth, he is EA idea. That thing of giving him a Dwarven ring really f****ed with the lore. Dwarven rings (as well as the Elven ones) didn't gave powers in war or socery, they just increase the dwarven natural love for richeries. (sorry by the off-topic).
I think that the gobbos need a call of the horde or somethink like it, mabye a really cheap and weak unit, and a "leadership" bonus wich grows the bigger that the army grows. Something like, after reach 5 or more battalions in the field, they get this bonus.
