Skeletons don't make sense at all in Tolkien's universe, it reminds me of Warcraft 3 :shiftee:
'Tall ships and tall kings
three times three.
What brought they from the foundered land
over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
and one white tree.'

Well maybe skeletons is a bad word for it, but general undead guys like wights or something, but not necessarily as powerful as the current wights.

If you read the barrow downs chapter, you will find that the wights were solid creatures. Frodo slashed at one's arm and if I am correct broke the sword.

walking skeletons = cheap arsed idea from a Ray Harryhausen movie, just either a reskin on the current wights, or a remodel

I think skeletons would only work in a illusionist type setting, as one of the blue wizards illusion powers.

Is that not the title Sauron assumed in Dol Guldur?

It is, but that was Sauron in disguise.
As such, I fail to see the connection between that and Dul Guldor.

I think the main thing is to make the wights solid. Less ghostly.

Yes. But I fail to see why the Necromancer of Dul Guldor was even brought up.

Because I was trying to put the possibility across, no matter how far from Tolkein it is by your regard.

even though we don't know weather Sauron did indulge in necromantic arts, why else would he assume such a title other than disguise. If he didn't act the part of the Necromancer, it would have been a rather hollow disguise.

But if you feel certain that undead have no place in Angmar, then feel free to stand by your opinion. Still a better jude of our conversations would be RJ, weather he wants undead or not.

i think we might solve the problem, just with normal reskin of wights, more physical than ghostly, - more like nazghuls, but theyre black cloaths should be more torn, old looking, to give em such " rusty " look.

btw: Ed of the 3d..., walking undead had theyre place even in the mythology by many races. But if you mean they were presented to poeple in a movie then i think Evil Dead was the first movie with skeletons.
"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world."

"who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own."
"Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit."
"Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control."
"Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."

I didn't say that the undead have no place here. However, your interpretation of them is...not what the Professor has lain out for them.
He's said that they were "evil spirits" being that of fea of fallen Men, or as is more likely, Orcs. So, these would be similar to the Barrow-Wights or Army of the Dead in appearance.

Ok so we just make them transparent/ghostly looking then instead of like zombies or skeletons.

xsuse me, but they are already pretty transparent/ghostly looking, and i dont really think that making em even more like that will be productive. rather make them more corporall, coz these flying bags of air dont really look terrifiying ( and i think a wight should be at least a bit scary, eh ? )

we should make them look a bit more solid, but they shouldnt be zombie-like.

now this is going in the right direction in my opinion, i just don't like the purpleness going on... not scary, nor is the skull under their hood.... but the last few comments seem to going in the right direction in my opinion.

myrdin - i know all about the undead in folklore, being irish - half our legends are based around the dead, undead or spiritual beings from the netherworld!
